Both girls rush to her, embracing her in the biggest hug. We’ve never discussed dating or what life would look like post-divorce. I always wondered how the girls would react to a new man in the house, but seeing them with Nat just about puts me on the floor. Their connection is so loving as they each go through all the terrible music from last night.
There’s more we need to discuss, like what this all means, but for now, my heart has grown at least two sizes, and I can’t help but wonder how much bigger it could get.

“Ican’t stay. I’m so sorry. I promised my roommate I’d run errands with her today. It’s the only time this week we’ll be together.” Kate and Madison have been glued to my side since they burst through the door this morning.
Candace has been lingering, watching us from a distance. It’s pretty clear from her ever-changing facial expressions that she’s flustered and ready for a level twenty freak-out. She knocked over a cereal bowl filled with milk, and when she went to clean it, the dish soap emptied itself into the sink. At one point, I thought she was going to call it quits and run upstairs to cry.
Being with her this morning was better than any dream. Those lips that have been the star of every fantasy were finally against mine. I’m dying to get another taste of her, the way her tight pussy clamped against my fingers had me soaking my own panties. It was the hottest thing I’ve ever seen watchingthat woman lose control while her massive tits bounced up and down.
Goddamn, she’s going to be the death of me, and I hope it’s a slow and torturous one. I’m grateful her reaction was cool after the deep dive into my life last night. Explaining to a lover that you unleashed hell on your room until it was unrecognizable is terrifying. She has two daughters. What if a woman only eight years older than them, with a history of violent behavior, is too much to handle?Wouldn’t be the first time someone thought that.
“Girls, go unpack your stuff, and I’ll walk Nat out. You can see each other at school,” Candace reassures.
We’re alone again, my palms are sweaty, and my knees might go out if she doesn’t speak first.
“I don’t want you to think I was ignoring you in there. It was…”
I cut her off before she can apologize for whatever she thinks she did wrong. “Intense, overwhelming, a lot to process? Or all of the above?”
“A lot to process, especially once the girls came home. You and I haven’t had a minute to talk about what happened this morning.”
“Speaking of this morning.” I grab her waist, bringing her towards me, inhaling her luxurious morning smell. “When do we get a repeat?”
Her cheeks flush pink, and I notice the giggle escaping. Her expression changes to panic as she checks her surroundings, moving away from me. “Sorry, the girls could see.”
“Wouldn’t want that now, would we? Can’t have everyone assuming you’re into chicks. Do they still burn women at the stake in this neighborhood?” I ask, looking around from the front door, doubting anyone's walking by and staring.
“Nat, I don’t regret what happened. I just need a minute to process all of this, and once I get my head on straight, we can talk.”
“So, what you’re saying is, I get to see you again?”
The bashful smile I crave so much creeps up, and she nods, keeping her eyes anywhere but on me. “Okay. Might I suggest listening to Radiohead while you dissect your entire life? Call me when you're done.”
I drive away a whole new woman, more determined than ever to be a part of Candace’s life. She’smine, and when she gave me the green light this morning, all bets were off.
When I finally get home, I’m practically skipping up the stairs to find Megan. Of course, when I walk in she’s rearranging an enormous antique armoire that has no business being in our tiny ass apartment.
“Oh, good, you’re here. Help me.” She pants. “I’ve been trying to move this beast over to the wall for almost an hour.”
“That thing won't fit in here. Where did you even get it?”
“You know the goatee guy from across the hall?” She points towards the open door. “He was moving out and didn’t wanna carry it downstairs.”
“And the goatee guy didn’t offer to help?” Keeping my stance strong in the doorway, I remain still, wondering how much of my day this is going to take up.
“Come on, Girl Scout, we’ve got this. Put those muscles to work.” With all the strength her tiny body has, she pushes it to the middle of the room.
“We weren’t Girl Scouts, and we’ve got the muscles of an eleven-year-old boy. Just leave it there, it gives the apartment an eclectic feel.” Heading to the bathroom, I discard my boots and clothes, desperately needing a scalding hot shower.
In typical Megan fashion, she barrels in right as I start shampooing, letting all the warm air out.
“I’m surprised you came home for me. I figured you’d bail on me for the Prez like you did last time.”
“Good lord, make it stop.” I came in here wanting one minute to myself. “It was one time. What was I supposed to do? Go to the concert alone?”
