“For my only daughter? Absolutely.”
The time had finally come for Kelsey to tell her mama about the business stuff. She needed to come clean about being unable to pay the payments for the loans. But she would keep everything about Davis to herself. Her mama had made it obvious she adored Davis. Kelsey planned on spilling all the tea to Isabella during their next coffee session and ask for advice. Because at this point, she felt lost. She didn’t know what to do with her love life.
The business had to take precedence.
Even if her heart hammered in her chest when she thought of Davis, even if a shiver of pleasure went through her when he touched her, even if she lost all inhibitions when she was with him.
Sex had to be off the table.
So much for dusting out the cobwebs from her lady parts. Mothballs might as well take up residency down there too. Because this dry spell was apparently here to stay. Her lady parts were about to have a long winter.
Orgasmapacolypse here we come.
CHAPTEREIGHTEEN
DAVIS
Garrett, the typical prick, texted Davis letting him know he’d be late to the Halloween party and would meet him there. It’s not as if this were a date or something but this had been Garrett’s idea. Davis hadn’t even wanted to go to the party.
Originally, he’d planned on staying in and handing out candy to the trick or treaters. He loved having a quiet evening in on Halloween, seeing all the creative costumes.
But nope. Here he was, dressed in an old costume, going to O’Henry’s. Not only was he not looking forward to the overcrowded bar, he still had the papers rolled up and stuffed in the inside pocket of the orange suit jacket, hanging over his head. Getting Kelsey alone tonight to discuss it would be impossible. But the longer he didn’t tell her, the harder it got.
Parking in the O’Henry’s lot, he gazed at the bar, anticipation buzzing through his veins. As much as he wanted to see Kelsey, he despised crowds. Even worse, drunk crowds. And even worse yet, drunk crowds dressed in costumes. Everyone trying too hard. People hooking up. Tourists in town, only there to see the famous love lock bridge. One’s that learned Renovation Dudes was filmed there—people noticing him. Then right away asking if he was Garrett or Davis. The disappointment when they learned he wasn’t Garrett.
It was all too much.
But he’d promised Garrett he’d be there. He wouldn’t break his promise. Even if the prick didn’t even have the decency to show up on time.
Grumbling under his breath, Davis climbed out of his truck and stuffed the hat on his head. With a sigh, he headed to the door. When he stepped inside O’Henry’s, loud Halloween music boomed through the speakers. His eyes scanned the crowd. Lots of costumes he expected. Batman and sexy Robin, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Jim and Pam from The Office, some he had no clue who they were supposed to be.
He felt out of place being there. Especially being there alone. Everyone else had the other half of their couple costume but his other half had maybe stood him up.
His eyes scanned the crowd, trying to find Kelsey behind the bar, but she wasn’t there. He frowned and spun around. He debated leaving. Garrett didn’t need him there. If he knew his brother well enough, and let’s face it, they were twins so of course he knew him, he’d find a hot tourist within the first five minutes and ditch him. What was the point of him being there?
And then he saw her.
Kelsey.
She straightened from leaning against the bar, pushing a baby blue hat down over a short blonde wig. She’d dressed in her Harry costume. With him wearing the Lloyd costume, it was as if they’d planned it and now they’d come to this party as a couple. His gut pinched and he felt the urge to talk to her now. About the offer and about his feelings for her. As much as he’d tried to stuff them down, they weren’t going away. There was something there. Something more than friendship. And he wanted to act on those feelings. He wanted to see where this thing between them could go.
He crossed the room, weaving through the crowd, his eyes set on her. But then he saw Garrett—his twin brother—seated at the bar in front of Kelsey. Her smile had been for Garrett. Davis knew that smile. She looked smitten.
It felt as if a balloon popped in his chest and then deflated.
“Garrett!” a woman screamed, taking him off guard as she wound her arms around his neck.
Maddie.
She swung him around and he had to crane his neck to see Kelsey and Garrett.
“Hey, Maddie. It’s Davis.” He unhooked her arms gently, giving her a friendly pat on her back.
She winced. “Oh, sorry. But did you know you and your brother are dressed in the same costume? Did you plan that or was it some twin telepathy thing?”
Maddie was clearly already drunk based on her actions and slurring of her words and not being able to tell him and Garrett apart.
“Definitely not planned. I thought he was gonna dress as Harry.”
