“I actually slept once you got here. I don’t think I moved.”

“Dizziness? Brain fog?”

“Since I really haven’t moved, I can’t say on the dizziness. Right now, I’m concentrating pretty well on the scrumptious breakfast.”

He smiles. “Then eat up. We need to get you through your exercises before we leave.”

“Leave?”

“Yes. We’re going to one of the company’s secure houses while the team sets a trap and looks for Allen.”

“Just you and me?”

“Yes, but I promise I’ll keep you safe.”

“Will I be able to work? I have some promo and covers for an author I work with. I’ll go crazy just sitting around.”

“One step at a time. You have some healing to do first.”

“Oh no. Are you going to nag the whole time? Am I going to be able to have any fun?”

He gives me a mock scowl. “I spent two hours last night downloading all the books Hazel said you like to read. I have another device with all your favorite movies—according to Frank. And cards to finally beat you at poker. You’ll be just fine.”

“And you’ll be with me?”

“Yes, I’ll be protecting you.”

He’ll be protecting me.

“Just you and your team?”

“Just me. It’s a secluded location and we don’t want to draw attention. It’s fully fortified. If we need backup they can repel in within forty minutes. We have a two-month food supply. Hopefully the team will find Allen in less.

“Vance knows how to run secure ops. You’ll be safe with me.”

Well, isn’t this my lucky day. Time to pull on my black lace panties. If I play my cards right, Hawke will know how I feel and he’ll be mine by the end of our forced seclusion.

“I trust you, Hawke. I always have.”

CHAPTER 5

Hawke

I will not covet my best friend’s sister. I will not break the ‘no go’ code.

She’d felt so damn good with her long leg hitched over my waist. Her chest pressed to mine. Her head on my shoulder, her breath whispering over my neck.

She’s like the little sister I never had.

She’s a fucking beautiful woman who is no relation.

Bro Code. Remember the Bro Code.

She should be mine.

She’s too young for you. In years and experience.

She’s strong, independent and wise beyond her years. She’d chew up some simpering little boy her age.
