Chris stepped aside.

Katie had already slipped her sundress over her head when he returned outside, and Justin and Jason were wrangling the boys together, both looking disgruntled that their fun was being cut short. Jason had already told him that he’d picked up a shift at a bar where he served part time.

“Everyone’s leaving?” he asked, slightly disappointed.

“Yeah, man, I need to get these guys home and get ready for work,” Jason said.

Katie swooped in and kissed his cheek. “I need to go too, but thank you for inviting me. I really loved meeting your family. I’ll call you later.”

“Okay.” Kai glanced over at where Matteo was standing with Dion.

“Actually, Dion’s thinking about taking on some outdoor work and asked if I’d give him my opinion, so I think we’re going to take off as well. I’m just going to say goodbye to Nolan.”Give him his opinion.Kai looked at the pair of them askance as they walked past. Kai would put money on that not being the only thing Matteo was going to give Dion if their flirting all day was any indicator.

When the very last car had pulled away from the driveway, Nolan wrapped his arms around Kai.

“How does a shower and a nap sound?”

“Amazing.”

Nolan took his hand and led him back inside and all the way upstairs. Even though their sexy time had been put temporarily on pause, showers with Nolan were still one of his favourite parts of the day, and today, after his realization that he loved Nolan, every kiss, every touch felt deeper, more profound, more settled. He wanted to tell Nolan, but he wanted to do it right. That meant dealing with his Liam situation once and for all. Once he figured that out, everything would be perfect and Kai could tell Nolan then.

Liam:

Guess where I am.

Kai read Liam’s text message with bleary eyes. He was still cocooned in bed with Nolan, the heavy weight of his arm draped over his waist. The sound of his snores told Kai that he was still deep asleep, and, even though the sun had changed direction, it was still pretty bright, which meant they hadn’t been asleep for too long.

Kai didn’t have a chance to respond when Liam dropped his location, except that it looked like he was at Nolan’s.What? Kai’s sleep fogged brain couldn’t make sense of it. He’d been super careful to make sure that Liam never had access to any information relating to Nolan. How could he have gotten Nolan’s address? It wasn’t like it was posted on the Internet like all of the other information Liam had gathered on him.

Liam:

Come downstairs.

Unease skittered through his belly, making his skin crawl and break out in goosebumps. If Liam was here, it meant he was up to some shit, and Kai needed to know what, immediately. He eased himself from under Nolan’s arm, grateful when he didn’t stir, and pulled on a pair of Nolan’s jogging pants.

Kai:

Where are you?

Liam:

That’s not fun. Come find me.

Kai fumed. He was going to beat the shit out of Liam for dicking him around. As soon as he was clear of the bedroom, Kai hit the call button.

“Where are you?” he hissed into the phone.

Liam laughed softly and that sick feeling in Kai’s belly worsened. “You’re no fun anymore, you know? Well, I guess not with me. You looked like you were having fun with everyone else today.”

A chill ran through Kai like a bad omen. Liam had been here all day? Maybe he should go get Nolan. Suddenly, he was scared. He knew, without a shadow of a doubt, that whatever happened next was not going to be good. Liam laughed that sinister little laugh again.

“You’re so fucking easy to read, Kai. Don’t go get him. I have something to show you.” Liam hung up.

Kai hesitated for one more second and then doubled back the way he’d come. He wasn’t going to take the chance. If Liam had something planned, he couldn’t leave Nolan asleep and vulnerable when he didn’t know what it was.

“Nolan!” Kai jostled him quickly and he jerked out of his sleep.
