“I work for Mr. Banks.”

Fuck.

How did they discover my real identity? The invitations were under aliases.

“What do you want?”

Lexi noticed the change in my demeanor, and her brows furrowed as I listened to one of what had to be Banks’ security.

“It took a while to figure out who you were.” He gave a light chuckle that raised my hackles. “But the sweet lady at theCasa de Campowas very helpful. She’s such a screamer.”

Ice water pumped through my veins, and I jumped off the bed, scrambling for my sweatpants. “What did you do to Maria?”

“She’s a bit of a mess now.” The guy sighed. “More blood will be spilled if you don’t return what you stole, Mr. Davenport.”

He ended the call.

“What’s going on?” Lexi sat up and clutched a pillow to her chest.

I finally found and yanked on my sweatpants and a t-shirt as my heart crashed against my ribs. “Stay here. I’ll be back.”

“Not happening unless you?—”

My hand snapped out and grabbed her jaw. “Stay the fuck here, Lexi. I mean it. This is not the time to be stubborn.” I released my punishing grip and stroked her cheek. “Just put some clothes on, and don’t open the door for anyone but me.”

I ignored her pout and sprinted out of the room to find Maria. If he did anything to that innocent woman because of me, he was a dead man. Maybe Gregory Banks wasn’t as stupid as he pretended to be.

After hurrying down the stairs and into the courtyard, a figure turned the corner, carrying a fruit basket.

“Maria!” I dashed toward her, confusion darting through me. “Are you okay?”

Her brow furrowed at my frantic state. “SeñorDavenport, did something happen?”

No bruises or cuts spotted her tan skin, and her clothes were perfectly situated on her curvy frame. Not one single dark hair was out of place.

A wave of arctic air washed over me, and the blood drained from my face as the realization hit me.

Maria was just a distraction.

They came for Lexi.

CHAPTER 34

I JUMPED

Lexi

The moment the door slammed behind Killian the hollow in my chest deepened. What the hell was going on? It had to be something bad for him to run out like that. Right before...

I sat on the bed, butt-ass naked, and despite the churning anxiety, horny as hell. How was it possible that this new, terrifying version of Killian turned me on so damned much?

He wasn’t exaggerating either. I was literally dripping for him. After fighting this thing between us for so long, I’d lost the strength to keep hiding. I longed to give into that darkness. The need for Killian coursed through my veins, searing and impossible to ignore.

And I didn’t give a damn if he ruined me in the process.

Let’s be honest, that had already happened long ago.

The jiggle of the doorknob sent my heart leaping up my throat and fire racing between my legs.
