"I can also buy some steaks if you like."
"Do you grill, too?"
"Absolutely. My grandfather did not cook, but he could grill like no one else. I don't think we ate much of anything that didn't come off the barbecue."
"I like it when you talk about your grandfather. Your gaze softens, as if you're remembering a happier time."
"He was a big part of my childhood, the best part. Not that the bar was set that high. Are you going to text Ben?"
"I was just thinking about that," she said, picking up her phone again. She sent her brother a quick text. It was only seven thirty, but he was an early riser. "I also want to call Walter, but I'm not sure what time he gets up. I'll probably do it right before I start work at nine so that I have a better chance of not waking him up."
"I'll be curious to hear what he says."
"He'd better say yes after everything we've gone through to set this up."
"I don't think Catherine will be happy."
"I can't worry about her. This is for Walter. And, hopefully, she'll realize we have his best interests at heart." She paused as a text came back from her brother. "Ben says he's heading to the hospital shortly. He checked with the nurse, who said Dad had an uneventful night. He'll let me know when he has an update."
"Well, that's good news," Jax said, giving her a smile. "Hopefully, it's going to be a good day."
"What are you doing today?"
"Shopping for food, for one thing, and I have a guitar to finish before tomorrow."
As he spoke, she couldn't help savoring the sight of him, looking so handsome and sexy.
"What are you looking at?" he asked.
"You. I can't seem to get enough of you."
"I noticed. You were all over me last night," he teased.
"I don't think you were complaining," she said with a laugh. "You couldn't get enough of me, either."
"I couldn't get enough of us," he corrected.
"It was a good night."
"Let's do it again tonight."
"Maybe," she said playfully.
"Seriously?" he asked with mock surprise. "I just get a maybe?"
"Well, you also get this," she said as she slid her naked body out of bed and gave him a saucy smile.
"You're killing me," he groaned.
"I think you'll live." She grabbed her clothes and headed into the bathroom with a big smile on her face. After taking a quick shower and throwing on her clothes, she went back into the bedroom. Jax was wide awake now and staring at his phone. "Everything okay?" she asked, feeling like his expression was off.
"Fine," he said. "Have a good day."
"If I get a minute to text you later about Walter, I will. Sometimes, it's difficult if we have back-to-back calls."
"I completely understand."
She shook her head. "You might be the perfect man." She walked over to the bed and gave him another kiss.
