They both sat on pins and needles, waiting for me to elaborate.
“I was pretty depressed, thinking about this man I was supposed to meet. I mean, he seemed nice enough and he was handsome?—”
“But he wasn’t Ryder,” Josie said, motioning for me to hurry up.
“And then this voice said to me,I heard somewhere that Friday was date night.”
They both stared at me, waiting expectantly.
“And?” Josie snapped. She nearly dropped her coffee as she grabbed the front of my wrap dress, dragging me toward her. “Who was it? Was it the date? Was it someone new? Who was it?” she shouted.
Very carefully, I pried her fingers from my dress, then straightened it out so my boobs weren’t showing.
“It was Ryder.”
“Yes!” Josie shouted, thrusting her fist into the air. “I knew it! He didn’t leave!”
“He stayed? He actually showed up?” Delaney squealed. “But he was leaving town. He was going back to New York!”
“He came back for you,” Josie said with stars in her eyes. “I knew it! I just knew it!”
“How did you know it when I didn’t know it?” I asked.
“Because I could see it in the way you talked about him. He’s your forever!”
I scoffed at that because we were a long way from anyone being my forever. “Guys, you’re missing the best part.”
“Did he kiss you?” Delaney gasped.
“Did he say he needed you?” Josie asked.
“Ooh! He proposed!” Delaney said, jumping up and down.
“Guys!” I shouted over their excitement. “Would you just listen?”
“Well, you’re taking too damn long!”
“Okay, then I’ll skip all the buildup. We had sex.”
They both stared at me, their faces falling.
“That’s it? You had sex?” Delaney asked. “That’s all you’re giving us?”
“Well, I was going to tell you about how we talked about his sexy tattoos, and then I told him I really couldn’t see thembecause they were covered. And then he told me he could take off his shirt and show me, but I told him he couldn’t do that in public.”
“And then?” Josie asked, practically on the tips of her toes. “What happened? Woman, you have to tell us!” she shouted.
“And then he said he could show me someplace more private,” I grinned.
“You said yes?” Delaney grinned.
“Actually, I believe I stood from my stool and downed the last of my drink, suggesting we should leave.”
They both squealed in excitement.
“Was it phenomenal?”
“I bet he’s a great kisser.”
