I turn to head back to the gondolas, but Calliope turns and sees me. There’s a half second delay, but then her mouth drops open and horror fills her eyes.
“Are youspyingon me?” she calls out.
I scoff. “Why would I spy on you?”
“To see who I’m meeting for lunch,” she snaps, then gets to her feet. “Stay out of my business, Cole Garrison. I’m legally separated, if you must know. There’s not a thing wrong with me meeting up with another man.”
Goddamn. It really is her. How could I have been so wrong about a person?
“Trust me, I want nothing to do with your business.”
But she’s already turned on her heels and is striding for the door to the restaurant, having apparently decided to go inside and wait for her date.
She’ll be waiting for hell to freeze over.
