That’s how he and Tina met, I’ve learned. He was looking for a fake date; she was looking for some extra cash. I’ll bet someone writes a book about it someday.

“No,” he says, lifting his hands. “By all means.”

While we’ve been talking, Tina’s been doing her thing with the cup, and she holds it up with an expectant look, as if waiting for it to do a magic trick.

“You see that, Zachy?” she asks.

“Looks like something that would get caught in the drain,” he says, but I can tell he’s just doing it to poke at her. It strikes me with some surprise that theydopoke at each other, Tina and Zach, but it’s all in good fun.

She looks up at me, eyes gleaming. “It looks like love.”

“Well,” I say, looking from her to Zach to Bryn, “I guess I’ve got a meeting with destiny in front of me.”
