Cases like this are why I truly decided to become a lawyer after Gideon. There are so many omegas who find themselves in situations they can’t get themselves out of—like all the girls we left behind when we escaped ten years ago. Sure, we rescued the ones who were at the house when we killed Gideon, but there are so many omegas we failed when we left them behind.
Helping other omegas has helped ease the guilt of those I couldn’t save.
I want to say yes to Knight because this case sounds right up my alley, but there’s a pit in my stomach, warning me not to get involved with anything in Miami.
“I wish I could say I’m surprised.” I shake my head. “I’ve seen more cases like this than I’d like.”
“Does that mean you can help us?” Knight looks so eager, and for some reason, I don’t want to disappoint him.
Yes almost pops out of my mouth, but I clamp my mouth shut just in time.
“There are a few more questions I need to ask. The most important one is who her legal guardian is?”
Knight snarls. “A bastard by the name of Fabian Vallejo Perez.”
The room spins as my stomach drops, and it takes more effort than I’d like to admit to not vomit all over my desk.
There’s no way he just said my half-brother’s name, right?
This can’t be happening.
CHAPTER ELEVEN
Luna
Isqueeze my eyes shut as Knight continues to talk, but all I can do is focus on his name—the villain who put me on the path that became my life.
“No,” I blurt out, cutting him off.
Knight blinks at me, mouth agape. “No?”
I shake my head. “No, I can’t help you with this. I’m sorry. I wish I could, but I can’t.”
“I don’t understand,” he says slowly, glancing at Prescott before his eyes return to me. “Isn’t this the exact type of case you usually take?”
“It is,” Prescott says quietly, a question in his tone, but I refuse to look at him.
Hell, I refuse to look at any of them, my eyes locking on the wall above the door as I attempt to keep my panic at bay.
I take a shuddering breath, hoping they don’t notice in their surprise. “You’re part of an MC. You should have connections.”
“We do,” Ven says gruffly, and in my periphery, I see him move closer to Knight. “They’re the ones who told us to reach out to you.”
Knight shakes his head. “I don’t understand. You seemed as if you wanted to help us. Why change your mind? You’re literally our last hope. My dad has been doing everything he can to cover the not so legal angles, but the Vallejo compound is impenetrable.”
Biting the inside of my cheek, I force myself to ignore the tears I can hear in his voice.
If anyone knows just how impenetrable the compound is, it’s me.
Deep breaths, Luna.
In and out.
He’s not here.
He can’t do anything to you.
He doesn’t know where you are.
