“Where’d you go, girl?”he asked.
I realized we’d reached our destination and Lynx had shut off the engine.I glanced over at him to see he was grinning, a knowing smirk tilting his mouth.
“If I had to guess, based on that sexy gleam in your eye,” Lynx rasped, “I’d say you’re thinkin’ about gettin’ me naked and inside you again.”
I couldn’t help it, I groaned. The man’s mouth was wickedly dirty, and I liked it.
However, I wasn’t above playing a little hard to get.I grinned.“Maybe.”
His eyes flashed with heat.“Then we should get this outta the way right quick.’Cause I’ve got a long list of things I intend to do to that sweet body of yours.”
My stomach fluttered, my pussy clenching.
“Come on,” he insisted, opening his door, then helping me across the seat of his dad’s cherry-red ’65 Chevy.
I knew Lynx loved that truck. In fact, half the town admired it, and they had for as long as Cooter had owned it.However, I also knew that I needed to give his truck back to him.Unfortunately, the phone call earlier had been to inform me that my truck wasn’t salvageable. On a positive note, my insurance said that, due to the fact that it was damaged during the bar explosion, it would be considered in the settlement. What that meant, I wasn’t exactly sure, but I was hoping I'd know more in a day or two.
Lynx helped me to my feet, then led me over to what appeared to be a staked-off section situated just a little farther back than the original bar had been.
“Afternoon,” Darrell Jameson greeted.“Wanted to talk about placement real quick.”
I nodded, smiling.
“We were thinkin’ that we could situate the place back here to give more space for the parkin’ lot in front. It takes away some of the space behind, but it’ll still have room for the dumpster.”
I felt Lynx’s eyes on me.
I nodded.“I like that idea.”
“Good deal. Now I’m takin’ Lynx’s design over to get it drawn up by an architect friend of mine.”
Geez.That sounded expensive.
Darrell must’ve read my mind because he smiled sheepishly.“He’s doin’ it for free.He owes me a favor.”
Once again, I felt tears forming behind my eyes.I was still trying to wrap my head around all these people wanting to help me out.
“Thank you,” I said, forcing the words past my dry throat.“I really appreciate it.”
“Anything, kiddo,” he stated.“That’s what friends are for.”Darrell glanced over at Lynx.“That really is all I needed.I’ll be in touch and if all goes well, the rest of the plumbin’ will go in by the end of the week.”
Lynx shook the man’s hand and we stood there as Darrell sauntered over to his truck.
When the parking lot was once again empty, Lynx turned to face me.“You still good with this?”
I met his eyes.“I am.It’s a little overwhelming… I just don’t know how to react, how to thank everyone.”
“No thanks needed.Like I said, your bar was home to a lotta people.”
Taking a deep breath, I willed the emotions down.I wasn’t about to fall apart in front of this man.I'd save that for later, when I was alone.
“What now?You hungry?”
I nodded.“I could eat.”
“Good.”He took my hand and steered me toward the truck.“You need your energy.”
“For?”
