“Oh, sweet love,” he whispered. “Don’t cry.”
She sobbed and attempted to force a smile, but it wouldn’t form. Her heart was breaking, and though he was still with her, she felt as though he were a million miles away already.
His focus shifted, his hips moving faster as he drove them both to the precipice and then over.
Acadia wanted to tell him she loved him, but the words were merely that. Words. They wouldn’t convince him to stay because he had more pressing things to deal with, and the last thing she wanted to do was hurt him more than he was already hurting.
It pained her to know that the week would soon be over and he would be leaving, but she vowed to cherish every last minute with him, and when he walked away, she would keep him locked deep within her heart for eternity. It would have to be enough to know that she’d been loved once in her never-ending existence, and she needed these memories to sustain her going forward.
Kaj lay in the darkened room, hisarm looped around Acadia as she slept.
Nearly six months had passed since he arrived here and so much had changed within that time. Perhaps not for others, but for him. He had fully recovered from his injuries, his body stronger than before because he’d fed from Acadia all this time.
The mere thought of going back to his previous existence, feeding from thecosrobolsday in and day out, did not sit well with him. He couldn’t fathom putting his mouth on another, biology be damned.
But he would because that was what was expected of him. His life was not his own any more than Acadia’s was her own. His duty was to the Alpha. Regardless of what his heart wanted, he couldn’t stay here.
“Why aren’t you resting?” Acadia whispered, her lips brushing his chest as she shifted in his arms.
“I’m content to hold you all day,” he assured her, shifting to watch as she moved over him.
Because he didn’t want to miss a moment, Kaj willed the bedside lamp on despite the fact he could see clearly in the dark. The artificial light allowed him the ability to connect with Acadia visually, and that was as much an aphrodisiac as her hands moving over him.
“Take me inside you,” he rasped, sliding his hands up her thighs as she straddled his hips.
Acadia lifted, her small hand curling around his erection and guiding him into the haven of her body.
He groaned as her slick heat slid over him, her tight sheath welcoming him.
Once he was seated deep within her, Acadia leaned forward, her palms flattening against his chest. He quickly covered hers with his and held her to him.
“Take from me,” he urged.
Her eyes met his, and a second later, his back arched as she drew her strength from his body. His cock kicked as the pleasure consumed him. It was as much mental as it was physical. Knowing he could be the life source she needed was a pleasure all its own.
She rolled her hips forward and back, stroking him with the smooth walls of her sex. He watched as she rode him, her hair swaying around her shoulders, falling over his chest, tickling his skin. He would miss this most. Not necessarily the sex, but the connection they shared. This was more than mere physical pleasure. It was two beings coming together as one. Kaj was whole for the first time in his life, complete in a way he knew he would never be without her.
They stayed like that for the longest time, her body recharging from the energy she took from him, his maintaining a strong, steady pulse as the erotic pleasure coursed through his veins. And when it was his turn, Kaj repositioned so that he was behind her, his cock finding its way inside her once more. He pierced her vein as he rocked his hips, driving deep. He had no idea how many times either of them climaxed, but he knew it wasn’t nearly enough to sustain him forever.
He retracted his fangs, sealed her wounds, then rolled over her so that she was beneath him, her beautiful eyes peering up at him. He drove into her again, his hands sliding over hers as he pinned her to the bed and rode her for long minutes, his hips pumping, his heart soaring. This was as close to Heaven as he hoped to ever be. Right here, with this female. She was his heart, his very reason for breathing. She’d brought him back from death and he would never forget her.
Not even if he lived forever.
Chapter Twenty-Eight
“Perhaps you could tell us a littleabout yourself,” Bijou prompted when she joined the interviewee after Blaz slipped away to place their order.
“I’m an open book,” Leilana said with a smile that registered all the way to her eyes.
As far as first impressions went, Bijou found the female to be a bit on the … hesitant side. As though she wasn’t exactly comfortable leaving the safety of her clan to venture out into the human world. Not that she considered that a bad thing, per se, but it was rare to encounter a vampire who wasn’t well-versed in human interactions. However, Leilana’s eyes continued to scan the room as though she was waiting for the older female scanning the cookbooks to do a running dive on top of her.
Regarding appearances … Leilana was pretty in an understated manner. She was on the petite side, her blond hair pulled back into a sleek ponytail, the end draped over her shoulder. Her eyes were a radiant blue, her lips a soft pink. She had minimal makeup on, and the outfit she wore looked better suited for an elderly human than a one-hundred-forty-five-year-old vampire. Bijou had to wonder if she wore the bulky clothes to cover herself up rather than embrace the lush figure she clearly hid beneath.
But Bijou wasn’t here to judge her on her fashion sense or to make assumptions on her self-view. This was a job interview and she’d do well to remember that.
“Tell me about your family,” Bijou said, because it was obvious the female needed a more structured request.
“I still live at home with my mother and father. In Tennessee. My two younger sisters reside there as well. I have two older brothers, who moved to New York to assist the clans in that region. I’m close with my family, I guess you could say. We have a good relationship.”
