“When are you meetin’ with Max?”

“I left a message,” Reese answered.

Travis’s gaze passed between them a few times before he pulled his phone from his pocket. He tapped a few things on the screen, then it started ringing, the sound coming from the phone’s speaker.

“Why’re you botherin’ me this early?”a familiar voice answered.

Travis smirked.“We need to meet.Today.”

“We?”

“Brantley and Reese are here with me.”

“I left you a message,” Reese added.

“I’ve been busy this mornin’,” Max said.“Haven’t gotten around to callin’ you back.”

“No shit,” Travis said.“If you had, he’d have the meeting time and I wouldn’t have to call.”

“You’re just a giant ray of fuckin’ sunshine, you know that, Walker?”

“So I’ve been told. What time can we meet?”

“You comin’ here?”Max asked.

“Yep.Take us a few hours to get things in order and get up there.I’d say this evening works best.”

“Seven?”Max offered.

Travis’s eyebrows lifted in question.

“Seven works,” Brantley said, trying to keep his tone cool.He did not like being put on the spot like this. And he damn sure didn’t like Travis bulldozing his way over his op.

“You got a place in mind?”Travis asked Max.

“I do.I’ll send you the address an hour before.See you then.”

The call ended.

Travis cocked an eyebrow.“I guess I’ll be taggin’ along.”

Son of a bitch.

While he generally preferred not to go toe to toe with Travis, Brantley’s frustration had skyrocketed to DEFCON 3, which meant he was only two levels away from hitting an imminent nuclear war.He stepped forward, met his cousin’s eyes as he invaded his personal space.

“I’m in charge of this.Understand?”

Travis held his own, not backing down.“Did you honestly think I’d slink back home and hide under the covers when you told me someone thinks my wife’s alive? You know me better than that.”

Actually, Brantley hadn’t thought that.He’dhoped.And in this case, there was a big difference.

“You told me to keep you apprised. That’s my intention.”

“Now you don’t have to.I’ll be right by your side.”

“The fuck you will.I don’t need you goin’ off half-cocked like you usually do.”

“Let me tell—”
