All eyes shifted to her, and Reese could practically feel the guilt coming off a few of them. They’d been busted.
JJ took a deep breath and walked around the table so that she was standing opposite him and Brantley.
“So the bachelor party’s on Wednesday of next week. It’s at Moonshiners. Just a get-together for friends and family. Nothing fancy.” She pinned her gaze on Brantley. “I was warned that it couldn’t be over the top.”
Okay, so they hadn’t been busted.
“However,” JJ huffed, a wide grin forming on her face.
“No,” Brantley said firmly.
“You don’t get a say in this,” she countered. “Iam the best man.”
“Bestperson,” Meghan corrected. “It’s politically correct.”
“Yes.” JJ smiled warmly at the little girl. “You’re right. Bestperson.” Her gaze shifted back to him and Brantley. “SinceIam the bestperson, I have the honor of settin’ up the bachelor party, and while you two might be willin’ to settle for a night at Moonshiners—which’ll probably be like every other Saturday night, I’m sure—” JJ rolled her eyes. “I’m not willin’ to settle. This only happens once, and you two just so happen to be my best friends in the entire world, so I wanted to do somethin’ special.”
All chairs had shifted, angling toward JJ so they could hear what she had planned.
JJ held up two fingers. “Two days. Saturday and Sunday.”
Some excited muttering began.
“It starts on Saturday mornin’.”
“JJ, this isn’t necessary,” Brantley grumbled.
“But it is. And before you knock it, listen to what it entails.”
“Booze, I hope,” Griffin said.
“I’m gonna preface this by sayin’ it’s all been paid for. Some very generous friends and family have graciously pitched in to give both of you an excitement-filled weekend. And you won’t have to leave Austin.”
Reese glanced at Brantley, noticing he was gritting his teeth.
“Keep goin’,” Brantley muttered.
“Like I said, it starts on Saturday mornin’. You won’t need to go for your daily run because you’ll kick it off with a race up the Mount Bonnell steps.”
Reese frowned. “You’re gonna make us exercise?”
“There’s a purpose for everything. You’ll find out what that one is when you get to the top.”
“Hopefully, it’ll be booze,” Griffin said again, making everyone laugh.
JJ glared at him before addressing Brantley and Reese once more. “From there, you’ll be goin’ to the Circuit of the Americas track to race Ferraris.”
Reese heard Brantley’s quick inhale and felt his eyes on him. “This might be worth it.”
“After that, you’ll hang out and do whatever you want until it’s time for dinner. At Chuy’s. Which I happen to know is Reese’s favorite.”
It was his favorite, but how JJ figured that out, he wasn’t sure. Reese didn’t think he’d ever mentioned it to anyone. Not even Brantley.
“Then you’ll have the option of enjoyin’ some”—JJ looked at Griffin—“booze on Sixth Street.Or… you’ll be able to hang out at the hotel bar because you’ll stay one night at the Four Seasons. I worked with the hotel and booked three of their largest suites, so there’s room for everyone.”
“Everyone?” Reese asked, looking around the table.
JJ began ticking names off on her fingers. “Trey, Magnus, Cal, Griffin, Killian, Z, RT, Baz, Evan, Slade, Atticus, and Luca.”
