Brantley barked a laugh. “Are you fuckin’ kiddin’ me?”

JJ frowned. “What’s wrong?”

Reese pointed at the rings.

“How did you get those?” Brantley asked.

“I grabbed them when I picked up the marriage license. I texted you, remember?”

Reese shook his head, his mouth hanging open.

“JJ,” Brantley said, still laughing.

She frowned, glancing back and forth between them.

“What’s so funny?” Baz asked as he came over.

“I think they’ve lost it,” JJ told him, still staring.

“We’ve been lookin’ for those all week,” Reese blurted.

Brantley added, “We tore the entire house apart.Three times.”

“I told you I got them,” JJ said defensively.

“No, youtold usyou picked up the marriage license,” Brantley corrected.

JJ shook her head, pulling out her phone. “I texted you. You just weren’t payin’ attention.”

Reese waited patiently as she skimmed her phone.

“Oops,” she said with a sheepish grin. “I swore I told you.” Her grin disappeared as her eyebrows slammed down. “But if you thought they were missin’, why didn’t you tell me?”

Brantley paused his laughter to say, “Oops.”

When JJ’s eyes widened and a grin formed on her face, relief swamped him. It was so powerful that he nearly dropped to his knees.

“We spent the entire week searchin’ for somethin’ that wasn’t even lost,” Brantley noted.

“Now that we’ve cleared that up…” Baz gestured toward the other side of the room. “Perhaps we should get the show on the road.”

“I’ll take a beer,” Brantley told her.

“Me, too,” Reese chimed in. “Maybe several.”

“You two arenotallowed to get drunk,” JJ said, her voice stern. “If you don’t show up—”

Brantley put his arm around her shoulder and his hand over her mouth. He leaned in and spoke into her ear, loud enough for Reese to hear.

“Honey, we’ll be there with bells on. Of that, you can be certain.”

Reese nodded when JJ looked his way. If he did nothing else tomorrow, he would be getting married, that was for damn sure.
