“Doin’ it now,” Slade told him.
JJ leaned against the counter, slowly unscrewing the lid on the water.
No body, no crime, right? So why did they arrest Baz? Round Rock PD wasn’t a bunch of small-town wannabe cops. They knew what they were doing. So why would they arrest him without an actual body to prove the crime?
Plus, that blood was found inside a storage unit. Not in the parking lot. Not in a public place. How did they find out about it? Who called it in?
“Molly did this,” she muttered, frowning at the wall as she took a sip of water. “She had to.”
With bottle in hand, JJ marched back out to the main room.
“Can you find out who called it in?” she asked Luca.
He glanced over his shoulder. A second later, his understanding registered.
“You think someone tipped them off?”
“Yes.”
“That makes sense,” he said, turning back to his keyboard. “How else would they think to look inside that unit?”
“Brantley and Reese are on their way to the station with Wes.”
“Oh, crap.” JJ forgot to call Wes. She’d been so caught up in Luca finding out why they’d arrested Baz in the first place that she forgot to call him.
Slade’s phone rang.
“Yeah,” he answered, walking toward the conference room.
JJ stared after him, but she didn’t follow.
“Hey,” Holly said, her voice sounding like it was coming from a great distance. “JJ. Come here.”
She was aware of movement around her, but everything felt fuzzy. Her body was too hot.
“Grab that chair,” someone shouted.
“JJ, sit down.”
“Someone get some wet paper towels. Put them on her neck.”
A chair was pushed under her, and she sat just as her vision went black.

“Shit,” Reese huffed. “Yeah. Call an ambulance. I’ll let Wes know.”
Reese ended the call and turned to find Brantley standing a few feet away, concern etched on his forehead.
“What’s wrong?”
“JJ,” he said, trying to keep his voice low so as not to worry Wes. “I was talkin’ to Slade when he said she passed out for a minute. She seems okay, but they’re gonna get her to the hospital.”
Wes turned. “JJ?”
“Yeah.”
“What hospital are they takin’ her to? I’ll call Jules. Have her head over.”
