Molly’s eyes widened as she turned back to the door. “He wouldn’t do that.”

“Yes, he would. Think about it. You said it yourself. Why would he help you? Sonny loves you, and he doesn’t want you to be with Sebastian. This is the only way to get rid of him.”

“Oh, my God.”

“Please, Molly. You need to let me go so I can talk to Sebastian for you. I can warn him about Sonny. He was a police officer. He can have him arrested, and then he’ll be safe, and you can tell him how you feel.”

As the words came out of her mouth, JJ realized how ridiculous they sounded. However, they seemed to be working because Molly was now looking at the ropes binding JJ’s arms to the chair.

“How far’s the store?” JJ asked.

“There’s a Walmart not too far away,” Molly said.

“How long would it take him to get there?”

“Ten minutes, probably.”

“He can get a burner phone at a convenience store. Is there one nearby?”

“Yes.”

“Please, Molly. Untie me. I need to leave before he gets back.”

Molly’s eyes narrowed. She was starting to question JJ’s motives.

“I have a plan,” JJ added. “I need you to go along with it, though. I need to talk to Sebastian for you. I need to tell him how you feel. And I get it now. You’ve convinced me, Molly. I know your love for him is real. But Sebastian needs to hear it from me. He needs to know I can’t stand in the way of true love. But I can’t talk to him when I’m here. I need to see him face-to-face. It’s the only way we can make this work.”

Molly stepped forward. “When will I get to see him?”

“Untie me first.”

Another frown, but this time, Molly stepped forward and began to untie the knot on the rope.

JJ’s heart began to pump violently in her chest. She feared any second now, Sonny was going to come back.

“I’m gonna leave. I’ll go talk to Sebastian for you,” JJ told Molly. “I want you to stay here until Sonny gets back. When he does, tell him you changed your mind. Tell him you’re not sure if being with Sebastian is the right thing anymore. Tell him you think you might love him, too.”

“But I don’t.”

“You have to lie, Molly. You have to make him believe it. It’s the only way you can be with Sebastian. You don’t want Sonny to kill him, do you?”

“No. God, no.” She began tugging faster at the ropes.

“Good. I want you to tell Sonny you might love him and that you need some time to figure that out. Go with him. Let him take you somewhere so you can convince him that it’s gonna be okay.” JJ leaned so Molly was forced to look at her. “This is important. You have to convince him, Molly. If you don’t, he’s gonna kill Sebastian. In a few days, I want you to use that burner phone to call Sebastian and tell him how you feel. I’m gonna tell him you’ll be calling, so he’ll know. When you call, tell him to come get you. I’ll make sure he’s ready.”

“Okay,” Molly said as the rope fell from JJ’s wrist.

JJ didn’t hesitate, pushing to her feet. “Is there a back door?”

Molly pointed to a hallway.

“Do everything I said, Molly,” JJ urged.

“I will. And you’ll tell Sebastian I love him?”

“Of course I will. I’ll tell him you’re doing what you have to do so he can have a family.”

“Thank you,” Molly said.
