Even Sonny’s beady-eyed stare was getting more cringe-worthy. When he looked at her, JJ could imagine what cold, calculated shit was going through his mind. Like how he was going to hack her to pieces. JJ couldn’t understand how he could possibly hate her so much when it was apparent he wanted Molly. With JJ in the picture, wouldn’t that prove an obstacle for Molly, which in turn would give him a fighting chance with the girl he had eyes for?
Then again, she didn’t know how the mind of a sociopath worked, so maybe he figured he could simply eliminate everyone in Molly’s way. Hell, maybe he even planned to get rid of Molly, too.
JJ did know that it was getting more and more difficult to sit still and pretend all was fine. It was no longer fine, and it seemed everyone now knew it.
Well, except Molly. She was living in her own little bubble that included Baz loving her from afar while the rest of them merely orbited around the two of them.
She was delusional, but JJ could work with that. She had no problems manipulating Molly into doing what was right, but first, she needed Sonny to go. Try as she might, she couldn’t come up with a reason that would get him out of there. He’d already gotten food, which Molly had turned her nose up at. Other than that, she couldn’t imagine there was an errand he could run that would give her enough time to talk to Molly.
Her attempt to convince Molly that Sonny had feelings for her had been in vain. Either Molly didn’t see it, or she didn’t feel the same about Sonny. It could be both since Molly was fixated on Baz. Her only hope at this point was to convince Molly that Sonny was going to do something to jeopardize Molly’s big plan of getting back together with Baz. Too bad she hadn’t thought about that earlier.
JJ waited until Molly looked her way again, and she spoke up.
“Do you have a burner phone?” She prayed that she didn’t.
“Why?”
“Because it can’t be traced,” she said, pretending not to have a care in the world. “And you could use it to call Sebastian.”
Molly looked at Sonny, who shook his head. JJ couldn’t tell whether he was telling her no, he didn’t have a burner phone, or no, he wasn’t going to let her call Sebastian.
“I think he needs to hear from you,” JJ continued, hoping she didn’t come across as desperate as she felt. “How else will he know you’re ready to have a relationship with him?”
Again, Molly looked at Sonny. “She’s right. He won’t know unless I call him.”
“I wouldn’t use your phone,” JJ said. “Get a burner phone. That way, you can work out how you want this to go before he can figure out where we are.”
“Why are you helping?” Sonny asked, his beady eyes pinned on her.
“Because she loves him,” JJ answered, hating the taste of the words in her mouth. “She deserves to be happy, doesn’t she?”
Sonny’s eyes narrowed.
“But you love her, too, don’t you?”
Sonny didn’t react to the question. There was no way for JJ to read what he was feeling. The guy was a robot.
“Have you told her how you feel?”
Molly looked up at Sonny.
“It’s obvious,” JJ continued. “He loves you, Molly. Why else would he do this for you?”
Sonny’s eyes slid to Molly but only briefly. If JJ was correct, he was masking all emotion because he feared she would reject him. And he was probably right to do so.
“You know I love Sebastian,” Molly told him, her expression reflecting far too much pity.
“I know,” he snapped. “And I don’t love you. She’s full of shit.”
Oh, he definitely loved her.
“I need to call Sebastian,” Molly told Sonny.
“We have to cut that baby out first. Then you’ll have his kid, and he’ll have to be with you.”
Jesus Christ. The guy was serious. He was still working that angle, and based on the hope in Molly’s big blue eyes, she was in agreement.
“If you do that now, the baby will die,” JJ exclaimed, unable to hide her panic. “It’s too soon. You need to talk to Sebastian first. When you were pregnant, he wanted to be there when the baby was born. He probably wants that now. Call him. Ask him. Give him a choice in the matter.”
