Chapter Seven

11:05A.M.

“I found him!”

“Where? Where the fuck is he?” Brantley snapped at Luca, nearly driving his truck into a ditch when he pulled to the side of the road.

“Okay, I hear how that sounded now,” Luca stated, his tone calmer. “I didn’tfindhim, but I figured out who he is.”

Brantley huffed, his disappointment thick and heady.

“Sorry, boss,” Luca added, clearly sensing Brantley’s growing frustration.

“Who is he, Luca?”

“His name’s Sonny Gilmore. He’s twenty years old, born and raised in Georgetown, Texas. My best guess is he met Molly when they were both in a behavioral facility up that way.”

“Do we know where he lives?” Brantley asked, leaning heavily on his patience.

“He has no registered address. The last place he lived was the psych hospital. His parents are both deceased, and he’s got one sister who lives in California. I tried callin’ her, but it went to voicemail. I left a message, but I’ll keep tryin’ her. I’ve been unable to locate any other relatives.”

“Does Baz know him?”

“I haven’t checked with him yet. He went out with his dad to help with the list of vacant businesses in the area.”

“Does he have a car?”

“Nothin’ that’s registered in his name. I’ve also looked up a phone number but came up empty.”

Fuck. They basically had nothing. Not a mother fucking thing.

“Do you want me to give this information to Sheriff Endsley?” Luca asked.

“Yes. Tell Dwayne to pass on everything you’ve got. And call Baz. See if he recognizes the name.”

“Will do, boss. And I’ll send an actual pic to the team.”

“Let me know if you talk to the sister.”

“Sure.”

Brantley disconnected the call and leaned back in his seat. He was gripping the steering wheel with both hands, his knuckles white. Although he’d done his best to remain cool and collected this morning, his fear was getting the best of him. His best friend was missing, kidnapped in broad fucking daylight by some crazy fuck. He didn’t want Baz to know how terrified he was, but his guts were knotted with fear.

After what happened to Kylie Walker… Brantley would forever live with the guilt of being unable to do anything to stop Juliet Prince from taking Kylie’s life. If something happened to JJ, he would never forgive himself.

He took a deep breath, trying to calm his racing heart, watching the long stretch of road in front of him. As he did, a truck appeared in the distance. It was coming toward him at a relatively slow pace, bouncing along the dusty backroad. As it neared, Brantley recognized it as his Uncle Curtis’s truck.

He waited until it pulled up beside him before he rolled down the window.

It was then he realized Curtis wasn’t the one behind the wheel.

“You got truck problems?” his cousin Travis asked, his hard gaze skimming Brantley’s face as though he was expecting a lie.

“No. Just had to pull over for a minute.”

“Everything all right?”

Brantley shook his head.
