Sonny: No.

Molly: Did they have grape jelly?

Sonny: Yes.

Molly: Is it time to call Sebastian?

Sonny: Not yet.

Molly: She said she has to pee. When can we let her go to the bathroom?

Sonny didn’t have an answer for that one, but it did have his attention shifting her way.

JJ pretended to be looking around the room. She’d already cataloged everything she could back when she first saw the space. It looked like she was in an old ballet studio. There were pieces of mirror still stuck to the walls in various places and large holes where a barre might’ve been screwed in. She figured it was some sort of retail space, but she didn’t know for sure since the windows at the front were currently covered with plywood. Had they done that when they were planning to bring her here? Or was it the luck of the draw that it was there?

“I have to call him,” Molly was telling Sonny. “He needs to know that it’s okay now. That we’ll take care of Sebastian Junior together as soon as he’s born.”

It bothered JJ that Molly’s delusions appeared to be mixed up. One minute, she was saying Sebastian Junior was her pride and joy; the next, they had to wait until JJ gave birth to Sebastian Junior. Was she confused? Or was this all a game to her? Whatever it was, right now, Molly seemed to realize that Sebastian Junior wasn’t born. That hadn’t been the case when Molly showed her pictures of her and Baz and their little bundle of joy.

“I brought you breakfast,” Sonny said, his tone calm. “You need to eat, Molly.”

She barely spared a glance at the paper bag that Sonny was holding out to her.

“I can’t eat. I’m too excited. I’m ready for the baby to be here.”

“Eat just a little, Molly.”

At first, JJ thought Sonny was merely not paying attention, but now she wondered whether he was purposely avoiding Molly’s topic. JJ had noticed the way Sonny looked at Molly. He wasn’t merely her henchman. Or at least he didn’t want to be. If JJ was right, Sonny had a thing for her. She’d go so far as to say there was a possibility he was in love with the delusional woman.

Maybe that could work to JJ’s advantage. If she could get Molly to see that there was a man in her life who would love her forever and all that nonsense, perhaps she would give up on Baz.

Regardless of how she handled it, in about five minutes, JJ’s bladder was going to explode. If she didn’t convince them to let her go to the bathroom, she was going to embarrass herself.

“Hey. Over here. Pregnant woman needs to pee,” she said, aiming for cheerful.

All hope of a potential escape faded when Sonny looked her way. A moment later, he pulled that damn syringe out of his pocket.

“I’ll hold it,” she said, maintaining her smile. “But maybe we could figure out how to let me go soon?”

“She’s pregnant,” Molly told Sonny. “You have to pee a lot when you’re pregnant.”

“Let her pee on herself,” Sonny said.

“Eww. No. That’s gross. Plus, when the baby’s born, I don’t want it in pee.”

Uh …what?

The peanut wasn’t due for another ten weeks.

“We can cut it out of her now,” Sonny explained, looking at Molly.

Molly shook her head adamantly. “No. Sebastian wants to be here when the baby’s born.”

Yes. Stick with that, you fucking nut job.

JJ took a deep breath and mentally told the peanut that they were going to be all right. She wasn’t sure she believed it completely, but she trusted Baz, Brantley, and Reese. They were going to be there any minute.

She closed her eyes and prayed.
