“I think we should get everyone here and up to speed first,” Reese told Brantley. “And we’ll go from there.”
Brantley nodded. “Yeah. Sure.”
Reese knew Brantley was doing his best to hide his fear. JJ was his best friend. Had been for most of their lives. They hadn’t kept in touch much when Brantley was in the Navy, but they had picked up right where they left off since he’d been back. She was pretty much another one of Brantley’s sisters as far as everyone in the family was concerned, so this wasn’t going to be easy. Not for anyone. Certainly not for Baz. Since Reese was the most impartial of the three of them, he figured it would be best if he took the lead.
Another car pulled up, causing Reese to glance back. As he did, he saw Jay parking and Luca’s truck coming down the street.
Luca was the man Reese was waiting for. If anyone were capable of locating JJ without going door to door, it would be Luca. He had the ability to hack damn near anything. The first place Reese hoped to start was by looking at security and traffic cameras in the area. Or satellite feeds. Hell, the guy could hack NASA for all he cared. Illegal or not, they could ask for forgiveness later.
Brantley stepped back out of the way, allowing Reese and Atticus to come inside. He appreciated the fact that Atticus recognized the direness of the situation and didn’t flirt with Brantley in order to get a rise out of him.
Baz was pacing the room, one hand clutching his hair. He looked like he was seconds away from falling to pieces. The only thing keeping him together was his momentum.
“All right. I want a plan,” Brantley announced when Jay and Luca walked in.
“First,” Luca said, halting all other conversation. “Before we get too far in, do we know if JJ’s got her phone?”
“She doesn’t,” Reese answered. “It was at the scene.”
“Okay. What about her watch?” Luca looked at Baz. “She’s got a smartwatch. We might be able to track it that way.”
Baz’s gaze dropped to the coffee table. Reese looked down and saw the watch in question.
Luca looked down, too, his lips pursing for a moment. “Anything else she wears that might have a GPS tracker? Did she have her laptop with her?”
Baz shook his head. “No.”
They were all good questions, but Reese hadn’t expected it to be that easy.
“We’ll find her,” Luca assured Baz. “We’ve got plenty of other ways.”
“Let’s start with an overall assessment of the situation,” Reese noted as he turned to Baz. “To get everyone up to speed.”
“And a timeline,” Brantley said, glancing at Luca.
Slade walked into the house and Evan was right behind him.
Brantley looked at each person as he spoke. “From what we can tell, JJ went missing around oh seven thirty, shortly after she stopped at the bakery to get breakfast. ”
Reese glanced at his watch. That was two hours ago.
“From the looks of it,” Brantley continued, “someone confronted her on the sidewalk. She dropped what she was holding, and the trail goes cold from there.”
“Do we know who took her?” Slade asked, moving to stand beside Atticus, out of the way of the door.
“We do not have a definitive at the moment, but we do have a couple of people we’re looking into. The top one is Molly Ryan, a former friend of Baz’s.”
Baz stopped mid-step, turning to face them, his gaze sliding to Reese. “It’s her. I know she’s behind this.”
“I don’t disagree,” Brantley reassured him. “It’s not a coincidence that we were approached by a redhead asking if we knew Molly.”
“We were, too,” Slade stated, his attention moving to Atticus. “At Moonshiners, remember?”
Atticus nodded. “That’s right. Young kid. Mack told him he needed to card him.”
Oh, shit. That could be good news. If Mack saw the guy’s license, they might have a name.
“I’m callin’ now,” Luca told Brantley before the man could snap the order.
