He exhaled heavily and decided to admit the truth. “Because I couldn’t breathe. I didn’t anticipate feeling…” Logan paused, ordering his thoughts. “I didn’t anticipate falling in love with Elijah. But I didn’t leave for that reason.”
Her fingers teased the ends of his hair, her nose still nuzzled against his neck.
Logan ran his hand over her back, comforted by her nearness. “I left because I felt like I was betraying you. I’ve only ever been on the other side, and I didn’t want to feel something for anyone who wasn’t you.”
“I know how that feels. I understand, trust me. It’s not easy falling in love with someone else when you’re already in love. I’ve been there.”
He palmed the back of her head, needing to have her as close to him as he could get her. “I hope you can forgive me.”
“Of course I can,” she whispered.
“And you’ll let me make it up to you.”
Sam pulled back, meeting his eyes, her expression serious. “But you have to know it’s going to take some time for me to adjust.”
Logan nodded. “I know. That’s the partIunderstand.”
Her gaze skimmed over his face. “I’ll do my best to give you both the space you want.”
He shook his head. “We don’t want space, baby. That’s not what this is about.”
“But it is,” she countered. “And I get that. I do. There are times when I want you all to myself. Others when I want Elijah. I expect no less for you and him. I want you and Elijah to find with each other what I’ve found with both of you. If that means you need to be alone, I’ll find something else to do.” She smiled. “But if you want me to sit quietly … and, you know …watch… I can do that, too.”
He pulled her back to him and laughed. That was his Samantha. Honest to a fault, with a heart big enough and strong enough to handle a man like him. Just one of the millions of reasons he loved her.
Logan held her against him for several minutes, content to do only that for the rest of the day. It was movement out of the corner of his eye that had him looking over. Elijah was standing in the bedroom doorway, his shoulder resting against the doorjamb. He had a towel wrapped around his hips and a look in his eyes that warmed Logan to the depths of his soul.
He couldn’t believe he’d run from this, but he knew in his heart he’d found his way back because this was where he was meant to be.
For him, home wasn’t a place but the two people who’d burrowed into his heart somewhere along the way.
