She did. And it worked for them. Even if it was a touchy subject, Sam insisted they discuss it openly and honestly. Too bad they hadn’t given her the same consideration. Elijah knew he was as much at fault for holding back when she deserved the same from them.

“I wasn’t jealous, I was … scared,” Logan admitted.

“It’s not like I could give her anything you couldn’t,” Elijah told him, remembering all too well how Sam had changed his entire life.

“Exactly.” Logan stood taller, squaring his shoulders. “But we can give each other something she can’t give either of us.”

Elijah tried to figure out what he was saying.

“And I want that, Elijah,” Logan declared, his tone stronger than before. “I fucking want you in a way that feels like a betrayal to her.”

“Physically, you mean? Because otherwise—”

“Yes, physically. What I want from you … I can’t get from her.”

“And you think that means we’re betraying her?”

“Doesn’t it?” Logan snapped.

“That’swhy you ran away?”

Elijah’s gaze shot over to Sam, her words snapping like a whip.

“Youabandonedme because you think you’rebetrayingme?”

Logan’s throat worked on a swallow as he slowly pivoted and faced off with Sam across the room.

“How can it be a betrayal, Logan, when we all went into this with our eyes wide open? I’m not an idiot.” She thrust her hand through her hair. “Jesus. You honestly believe I’ve got blinders on? That I think the whole fucking world revolves around me?”

Elijah stood tall, set his beer down. He was prepared to intervene if need be. Tempers were high because this was a long time coming.

“That’s not what I’m saying, Sam,” Logan countered.

“Then whatareyou saying?”

Logan glanced back at Elijah, then turned to Sam once more. “I’m saying I want him.”

Her eyes narrowed. “That tells me nothing.”

Logan expelled a heavy breath, his voice deeper, harsher than usual when he said, “I fucking want him, Sam. I want him in a way that doesn’t involve you.”

Elijah expected Sam to jump back from the power of those words, but she remained stone-still when she said, “I know. Like I said. I’m not an idiot.”

Logan wasn’t a man prone to sheddingtears, but at that moment, he could feel the heat in his sinuses and the water pooling in his eyes. Every inch of his body was tight, the emotional turmoil lashing at him.

He’d fucked up.

Royallyfucked up.

“Sam, I don’t think you understand,” he said, choking back the emotion clogging his throat.

“Are you telling me that you’re gay? That you no longer want to be married to me?”

“Fuck no,” he barked. “That’s not it at all.”

She rolled her eyes and planted her hands on her hips. “Then trust me, Logan. I get it.” Her gaze darted to Elijah then back. “Because one of you had the decency to tell me what the hell is going on.”
