Unable to resist messaging Kieran back, I tapped out a few words:I’m thinking about you.

If it hadn’t been for the wine, I wouldn’t have sent the message, or so I told myself as I added the number to my contacts so I would have it for the future.

I waited for a response, but it didn’t come immediately and my elation dwindled a bit.

Then my phone rang.

I shrieked, dropping the phone in the process, then giggling relentlessly as I fumbled for it again, swiping my finger over the screen to take the call. No sooner did I answer than I realized it wasn’t a regular call but rather FaceTime, which meant as I stared at Kieran’s handsome face, he could now see me.

“Ah, love,” he said, his voice gruff, eyes flashing hot. “Are you naked?”

I giggled, flopping around in an attempt to cover myself. “No. Wait. Yes. Yes, I…” I stared at the screen, admired his truly handsome face. “What was the question?”

“Are you drunk?”

I shook my head. “I had some wine.”

“One glass or two?”

“The whole bottle.”

I swore his eyes caught fire. “And now you’re in bed?”

“Yes.” I sounded breathless, and not in the I-just-ran-up-the-stairs kinda way, either.

There was a soft growl from Kieran and then I noticed someone move behind him.

“Where are you?” I asked, trying to pull myself together.

He looked around briefly. “Business dinner. With Knox.”

Heat bloomed in my core, my thoughts of the two of them together returning. I felt my cheeks heat, hoping Kieran couldn’t see me blush.

“Would you like to speak to him?” Kieran offered.

“No,” I blurted, shaking my head.

“Here he is.”

“Wait,” I called out, watching on the screen as the phone shifted, Kieran’s face disappearing.

A moment later, Knox appeared and I inhaled sharply.

“Emily,” he greeted, his eyes focused intently just south of my chin.

I knew he couldn’t see any vital parts of me, but he would be able to see my bare shoulders, likely deduce that I was naked. Or mostly naked, anyway.

Another soft growl sounded through the phone. “We’ll call you back in a few minutes.”

Knox didn’t give me a chance to respond before the phone went dark. I stared at the screen as I flopped onto my back. He’d hung up on me.

“How rude,” I muttered, refusing to give in to the pain his rejection caused.

Knox

After disconnecting the call with Emily, Ipassed the phone back to Kieran, glared at him. I then composed myself and turned to our dinner guests as they joined us near the exit.
