Well, I can guess exactly who those voices belong to. Shuffling out of bed, I pad over to the door. Swinging it open, I snarl at the three girls standing in front of me.

“What the hell do you think you’re doing? Don’t you realise how early this is for me?” Admittedly, I don’t actually know what time it is. I would still be dreaming right now if it weren’t for them.

“Move out of the way, my nipples could cut through glass, I’m that cold,” Blair demands as the three girls waltz in as if they own the place. “We texted you earlier, and you didn’t reply, so Gracie started worrying about you. Then we were worried about you. We had to make sure Jake didn’t come and see you off in the middle of the night.”

“Wow, you lot are so dramatic. I was enjoying the best dream ever then, too,” I complain, but I won’t be letting them know what that dream was about.

We all make our way to my large U-shaped couch, grabbing the blankets from the arms and wrapping ourselves up. Looking over at Fallon, I notice she had carried in a tray of Starbucks coffees.

“Please, sweet Jesus, tell me one of those badboys is for me?” I ask, reaching my arms towards her like an addict seeking crack.

“Of course! As if we could come to you empty-handed,” Fal says as she passes over a cup. The strong scent of coffee and vanilla hits my nose.

“Mmmm, sweet and strong. Just like how I like my men,” I tell no one in particular, but a fact all the same.

“Oh, don’t we all,” Gracie chimes in. “So? How was last night?”

Frustrating. Because I had to get myself off instead of the man I wanted doing it for me.

“It was nice and relaxing. I haven’t heard a peep from Jake. He mustn’t have really cared all that much,” I reply

“It seems so strange, though, doesn’t it? How he’s gone from being all up your arse to complete radio silence,” Fal asks, a look of distrust on her face.

“Yeah, because he’s banging another girl now. He’s jumped into bed with another to keep him occupied,” Blair remarks bluntly, as usual.

She does have a point, though. He was so hot and heavy with me that for him to go without more of a fight seems out of character for him. Maybe he was playing the field behind my back the whole time.

“Listen, I’m just happy it’s over with now.”

Taking a long sip of my coffee, the heat of it warms my insides. I really should turn the log burner on, but I would much rather stay here, cuddled up on the couch. Even something as simple as sitting here with my friends is a rare occurrence these days. Something that, now that I thought about it, had only started from the time I began seeing Jake. How much of my life did he take from me? They used to always come here in the morning for a brew and a catch-up. How was I so blind?

“What’s everyone up to later? Fancy going out-out?” Gracie asks us all. That is such a British thing to say. If you’re nipping to the pub, then you’re going out. Or, if you’re going to a club and plan on having a late night, then you’re going ‘out out’.

“I’ve got nothing better to do,” Blair replies.

“As long as you feed me first, then I’m down for drinks,” Fallon, similar to me, thinks of her stomach before anything else. Food is life.

“I’m at work for a few hours later, so I’ll come meet you as soon as I finish?” I tell them.

“Yes! Girls’ night! I am loving this new single, Maymay. We’ve finally got you back. Let’s get dressy,” Gracie tells me.

“I'd best go and get ready for work. I’ll pack a bag so I can get dressed at the salon.”

“Ooo better idea! What time do you finish? We could meet you there and have pre-drinks whilst you get ready!” Blair exclaims.

“Yeah, so that we can do your hair for you, you mean?” Fallon deadpans.

“Of course.”

I leave them to their chattering whilst I get sorted for the day. The rush of excitement surprises me. Maybe because last time I went out with them, I was dreading speaking to my boyfriend. Now… I’m free!
