“When he manipulated me?” I shake my head. “I was seventeen.”
“Oh, Fallon. I am so sorry. You were so young.”
“I should have done something about it. Maybe then he never would have hurt you,” I drop my head.
“No. Don’t you feel guilty for whathedidto you. What you have done for me alone shows how much of a good person you are.”
“I wish I had done something then, but I promise you I will now. Whatever you want to do, I am in your corner,” I say adamantly.
She smiles at me, reaching across to take my hand.
“And I am in yours.”
Tears well in my eyes. This woman, who has only just met me, already has so much faith. It just shows that there may be evil out there, but the good far outweighs the bad.
“And I am in both,” Luke adds as he strolls into the room, two mugs in his hands. “I have spoken to our family solicitor, and he is ready for whatever you want to do next.”
My heart melts, again. How did I ever get so lucky? It's about time some luck came my way.
“Thank you, Luke. And thank you for letting me gatecrash your evening. I’m sorry for spoiling your plans.”
“You didn’t. You’re welcome here any time,” he says warmly.
“So, what do we do first?” I ask them both.
“I guess it's time to call the police.”
