The bar door swung open, and Blaize stormed in like a hurricane. This woman was magnetic, and I hated how I wasdrawn to her like a moth to flame. She was ethereal, but also radiated bitch. How could she be gorgeous, but be the epitome of a raging cunt at the same time? And why did I like her? My entire life I had to deal with assholes, and now I was attracted to one in more ways than sexual. Talk about shitty fate.

Blaize attempted to be intimidating as she walked to the bar, but I also didn’t care to watch her. She took control of a room, but she expected everyone else to bow down before her. I didn’t bow. When she stepped to the bar, she expected me to flinch and show fear, but I dealt with scarier monsters than a woman who couldn’t process her emotions.

I continued counting liquor bottles as she thumped her fingers on the bar, waiting for me to address her. She could wait. By the pissed off look on her face, she was in a mood and I didn’t feel like dealing with it.

“Kadence,” she called out, annoyance lacing her tone.

I ignored her for a moment longer. It brought me joy tormenting her by being a brat. Was it childish of me? Absolutely. Did I give a fuck? Not one bit. I glanced at her with a devilish smirk meeting her fierce, dark eyes.

“Problem?” I purred prettily.

She leaned forward, her eyes narrowing. “Do you have a problem, princess?

I rested my arms on the bar, my face inches from hers. “I’m peachy. You’re the one with the scowl.”

I knew I should stop.

I saw the way her shoulders went rigid and the way she clenched her fingers. I grabbed a crystal glass and poured her a hefty serving of whiskey before sliding it to her. She inspected the glass like it was poisoned. I knew how to listen, but she pissed me off. Now, with her whiskey in hand, she would shut up and listen to me. A wise woman would leave it alone, but I wasn’t smart when it came to Blaize.

“So,” I poured myself a shot, “Is this the part where you pretend I don’t exist again? I mean you had a nanoscopic taste of how I am in bed already, so are you just going to insult me more?”

Her eyes narrowed as she gripped the glass. “Watch your mouth.”

I ran my tongue over the front of my teeth before grinning brightly—bratty. “You’re not fucking me, so I can say whatever I want.” I poured the shot back before licking my bottom lip. She watched my lips a little too closely. “You didn’t reject me because you didn’t want me. You whispered sinful promises while fingering my pussy in a crowd,” I whispered as I met her striking gaze. “You rejected me because you’re scared of your feelings.”

Her jaw flexed. I hit a nerve. “Enough.”

I was already one foot in the grave, so I didn’t stop. “You want me. I know you do. I saw the way you wanted me when you pressed me against your wall,” I pressed, sweet and venomous. “Don’t act like a prude of all things. I’m not going to pretend like I don’t want you because I’m not a coward.”

Her back straightened as she threw the whiskey back before she slammed the glass down. I was surprised it didn’t shatter. “This ends now. Whatever the hell this was, is done. You are an employee, so act like it.”

And then she turned on her heel and walked away. Of course, she would run away instead of talking to me. I knew she had a wife once upon a time ago, but fuck. If she didn’t want me, why would she make me feel like she did?

I was delusional, but at least I made damn sure she wouldn’t forget me.

CHAPTER 40

BLAIZE

She was going to be a problem tonight. Her attitude earlier today was enough to piss me off, but I would deal with it later. I told her no, and she was acting like the world was ending. If I touched her, I knew it would cause problems. I didn’t need to add it to my plate, no matter how tempting she was.

Cinder and Melisa walked hand in hand. It’d been a few months since I last saw them. Cinder was still the same, and Melisa looked gorgeous as usual.

Melisa hugged me. “Hi, Blaize, it’s good to see you.”

“Same to you. How's that little girl?”

“Alice is a very feisty two-year-old. My baby sitter is a godsend for these trips.”

“You know we can also do anything to help.”

I wasn’t sure how, but I was certain one of the girls at the clubhouse could babysit for her while we talked business and they were at the club, but they also rode their bikes here, so it might not be the best option. I wanted to know what Cinder told her people when they would come this far for a week.

“I’ll meet you two at the bar,” I told them. “I’m going to get Hunter, and we’ll be ready to talk.”

I walked to the front of the club and found Hunter flirting with one of the girls. Hunter loved playing with my employees, and she was lucky I loved her or I would kill her. She also didn’t hurt them since she told them off the bat anything they did was strictly sex, so if they caught feelings, it was their own doing. I’d say it was a bitch move, but at least she was honest.

“Get someone to cover for you. Elle and Melisa are waiting for us.” Elle was the name she preferred we used when addressing her publicly, but Cinder could be used in private. She was paranoid that her sister or the Vipers would learn of her hidden identity in Westhaven, and her little secret would be revealed.
