“We have staggered shifts like tonight, I get off at midnight. You can wait around, and I can take you home.”

The clubhouse was my home for the last two weeks. Hawke said he didn’t want me back in that motel, but now I had nowhere to go. Annika looked at me with a concerned look on her face.

“Uhm, I actually don’t have a place yet. I was staying at the clubhouse, but I feel like they are tired of me.”

I didn’t want to go back to the Reaper’s clubhouse, because they deserved to have their domain back without a traumatized girl waking up screaming or jumping at the racket of a pool ball. Hawke said he would pick me up later, but I didn’t want him to waste his time.

She scrunched her nose. “I’m not taking you to a motel. You can stay with me. I have a spare bedroom in my apartment.”

“I couldn’t impose.”

“It’ll be fine. I’ll text my boyfriends to let them know.” I nodded. I wanted to question what she meant by boyfriends, but it was something I would deal with later.

“Awesome. I need to take you to Hunter. She needs to get you into the system and everything.”

She took my hand and pulled me back to the front of the club, where a tall, slender woman in black leather waited. Her feet were kicked up on the desk as she typed on her MacBook. She saw Annika and gave her a faint smile, before it faded completely when looking at me. Her eyes skimmed my body, lingering on my sensitive spots.

“Are you the issue?”

“I’m sorry?”

She leaned forward. “I don’t know you, and I know everyone. What do you need, Annika?”

“This is Kadence.”

Her perfectly defined brow arched, as she tapped her pen against the top of her laptop. “Ahh,you’reKadence. Where you from, kid?”

“Kansas,” I lied. I should’ve chosen a state that didn’t have a country twang with my New Yorker accent. Fuck, I was an idiot.

She looked at me, like she could read straight through my lie. “Uh huh. Okay, Hayes. I’ll have you in the system by tomorrow. Are you on drugs?”

“Does alcohol count?”

She smirked. “You know what, I think we’re going to be best friends.”

“Better than being bitched at. Does Blaize not get enough dick and pussy from Hawke and his wife to make her less of a fucking bitch?”

“I’ll let you deal with that,” Hunter said, laughing as she closed her laptop.

“I wouldn’t let Blaize know you thought she was fucking Hawke. Fallon might get jealous.” Annika looked at me and laughed as Hunter walked away. “Babe, Blaize is a raging lesbian. Only thing she does involving Hawke is maybe teasing his wife and watching them have sex. You couldn’t tell with the black slacks and button-up?”

“Uh, I guess my gaydar is a little rusty.”

CHAPTER 19

KADENCE

Midnight rolled around, and Annika did her count before pulling her jacket on and saying goodbye to security. Big Mike pulled her car around the front for her, keeping the driver’s door open before opening the passenger side door for me.

“You ladies be safe now.”

“Bye, Mike,” Annika cooed before pulling off. “Okay, so I’m gonna warn you since you didn’t mention anything earlier about texting for the spare room.”

“Your boyfriend?”

She nodded. “I don’t have one boyfriend. I have three.”

I nodded before what she said was processed in my brain. “Wait.Three?”
