That earns me another smile. “True, and I envy it. It’s fucking freezing. Can we go back now?”

I took her out in the woodlands behind the Pit. It’s been playing on my mind about her hesitation at the cabin. More so now with the looming threat we’ll have meeting her sister.

Although I’m kind of glad she didn’t kill me back then, I don’t want her to lock up when she meets any of those fuckers on our list.

The snow is lying thick, almost a foot deep as it blankets the entire ground. When my gaze travels across the untouched area, a wicked sense of nostalgia hits me. “I have an idea before we go.”

Indie’s eyes drop from my eyes to my lips, the frost in the air giving away her deep exhale. “Like what?”

“We’ll play a game. That’ll warm you up.”

Her brows dip, and she wets her bottom lip, stirring my dick to life when her voice turns husky. “What do you want to play?”

My laugh rumbles through the forest. It’s so deep and evil, it’s a shock the white-tipped branches don’t shudder off the snow. “Hide and seek.”

Her breath hitches, and I pull off my gloves so I can feel the electricity biting beneath her skin, her throat thumping against my thumb as I stroke her neck.

Her voice drops to a whisper. “It’s getting dark.”

“Don’t worry, I’ll find you before it does.”

Defiance strikes across her beautiful face, exactly how I wanted it to.

I lean down to kiss her, my tongue stroking against hers as I pull her tightly towards me, her frozen cheeks frosty against mine, and the layers between us flare an annoyance through me. I could save her the cardio, get her to bend over and fuck her right here.

But the chase is always worth it.

I growl against her lips, “One.”

Unlike the last time, she untangles herself and zips past me, well rehearsed in how I play my games.

However, I also play dirty; her feet treading through the snow gives her away, and the trail of footprints will work in my favour.

My calves twitch to turn and run after her, and I tell myself I’ll count to thirty. Until a sigh leaves me after ten seconds. I’ve never been one to follow the rules.

I whip around, gaze following the small indents in the snow, noticing they go upwards into the hill instead of choosing the easier downward way.

It sends a sickening thrill through my veins, knowing her pants will give her away.

Oh, Indie darling. You make it too fucking easy for me.

Grabbing the gun at my feet, I bolt up the hill, each of my strides doubling one of hers. You could say we’re now equal in terms of almost shooting each other.

But I always have to get one up.

When I stop to see which direction she took, the birds halt their chirping above me, like they know who walks amongst them.

The early polar evening had dipped one side of the forest in a haze of grey, the trees stretching into the sky as they scatter throughout the woodland, but my smirk grows when I spot her immediately.

She’s as still as a doe behind the thickest tree, the steam coming from her overworked lungs giving her away.

I keep my steps light, the inches of snow helping keep me undetected as I skulk closer to her. She’s only a couple feet away, and I lean down to pick up a branch, tossing it so it flies over and past her, noticing her peering the opposite way.

When it lands, her head whips in its direction, and she backs herself slowly around the tree.

Right in the direction to run towards me.

She drops to her knees, and I give her a few moments thinking she’s getting the upper hand.
