Eliza pulls my hair and grips her daddy's neck, lookingaround with big, dark eyes, cooing and burbling to herself, and laughing uproariously every now and then.
His eyes shine as they land on her. "She's mesmerized."
"I am too."
He takes my mouth in a long kiss until Eliza breaks it up with little huffy sounds, and her grip on my hair is insanely strong.
"Me as well." He untangles her hand from my hair. It's no use because she grabs it again. "Hate to break it to you, but the kid has got a wrestling career ahead of her."
We keep dancing, and the swaying movements start to put Eliza to sleep.
The party is winding down, and I can barely stand. I'm so tired.
Enzo kisses my forehead. "This lot is going to party into the small hours. But I'm thinking we should get out of here."
I love it when he can sense what I need without me asking.
"Do you remember that townhouse with the pool?"
"Where you spied on me?"
"Yeah. That's the one." He grins, not looking sheepish at all.
He did. Once. But we're past that. And now, the thrills of that moment, when he was Alex taunting me, teasing me, come back.
"Alex might have cameras."
His eyes flash.
Alex is back.
We play that game, too. He's the boyfriend in the secretary game, the confidant, the faceless lover I get texts from who makes me do things blindfolded, who whispers filthy, dirty things in my ear and wants every detail of what Asshole Boss Enzo has done to me.
It's weird, convoluted. And I love it.
Now more than ever.
I need all the iterations of Enzo in my life.
Though tonight...I need sleep.
"I disabled them. I thought of getting us an exclusive hotel, but we can go to one any time we wish when we travel. I got the maid service in. The bed is turned down, there is champagne, there are...there are a lot of things... And you never got to explore the space."
"How about exploring how comfortable the bed is and how quickly it puts me to sleep?" And then I remember Squish.
But Enzo looks past me, and his dad and Lyndall come over.
"Are you guys off to have s—er...sleepy times?" Lyndall side-eyes Mario.
"This is your wedding present. The first one. Lyndall and Dad are going to look after Squish." Enzo glares at his dad and sister. "You have all the instructions?"
Mario huffs. "I've raised children."
Enzo rolls his eyes. "I know. Been there, done that. It's why I am asking the question."
Lyndall scoffs. "We've read the tome a hundred times. Changing diapers, feeding dos and don'ts, blah, blah. It's all under control."
I kiss my daughter as Enzo hands her over. And my heart lets out a pang as my tired body breathes slowly and quivers at the idea of sleep. Uninterrupted.
