Rosier lifts a brow and then holds out Leaf, his little black legs sticking straight in the air, and I have to stifle my laugh.

“Not at all,” Amber says glumly.

“You can come over,” I yawn.

“Are you going to be awake when I get there?”

I smile. “If you promise to bring me coffee, I probably will be.”

Rosier inches closer to me, clearly interested in the conversation.

“Deal. I’ll be by with coffee in like half an hour,” Amber promises.

Rosier speaks up. “You humans and time. How can an hour be halved?”

That confirms that he can hear Amber’s side of the conversation, which wakes me up like being drenched in cold water. Not that anything has been said he doesn’t already know, but it’s one thing when he has his nose in my business versus everyone else’s.

“See you soon.” I feel bad hanging up on her so suddenly, but I don’t want her saying something without realizing a literal devil is listening in. I frown at Rosier. “Okay, eavesdropping is not okay. I’m going to assume you didn’t mean to–”

“That’s a very naive thing for you to assume.”

“You are such a spoiled brat.”

“Do I need to spank you a second time?”

I ignore him.

Amber knocks at my door, and instead of opening it up wide enough for her to enter, I slip out and meet her in the hallway.

“Hi.” I give her a smile.

“Uh…” She looks past me at my apartment door, two coffees in her hand. “Hi? Sorry are we–”

“I have someone over, remember?”

Amber’s eyes go wide. She leans over to whisper in my ear. “Is he in there?”

Rosier’s voice calls through the door. “Yes.”

I spin around and open my door a crack. Rosier’s golden eyes peer at me from the entryway. He hasn’t bothered to put on clothes, but I’m not even fazed by that anymore.

“Stop. Eavesdropping!” I scold. “It’s rude! And if you keep it up, you’ll be living with Kas for the rest of eternity.”

His eyes narrow. “I’m getting the feeling you don’t want me to meet your friend.”

“I don’t.”

I can feel Amber looking over my shoulder. “Yeah, hi, the friend here. I’m really just here for Minnie. And I’m not really friendly with devils. Sorry.”

“Don’t apologize,” I tell her, already starting to shut the door. “He never does.”

Rosier grabs the door and opens it wide, exposing himself to the entire hallway.

Amber hides her eyes behind the cups of coffee. “Oh shit–okay, wow. I didnotwant to see devil dick.”

Rosier and I glare at each other, my jaw tight. “Put on clothes.”
