“I don’t compete with women… I listen to them.”
It was Wednesday wind-down, and my girls were coming over to my new place, a high-rise in Hollywood overlooking LA. Even though business was slow in my eyes, I had made enough to move out of my one-bedroom in West LA.
“So you want me to keep the vibes chill tonight, or you want me to be messy?” Laila asked as we pulled out wine glasses. Laila was my girl who always said what I was thinking, plus she knew how to get the tea out of our friends. I loved a lil mess in my spare time.
I looked at her and smirked. “Messy, duh. I’m curious about something.”
“About Vaughn?” She snickered.
“That’s why I keep you around. I’m just curious why these bitches are so in love. Wanna see who I’ma be working with.”
She laughed. “I got you. And we are not speaking on the potential deal.”
“Nope, let them talk. Tonight makes or breaks that deal.”
“Well, let’s pull out the strong wine, get them talking.”
The girls and our Chinese food showed up at the same time.
Alana, Sophie, Jailyn, Cee-Cee, and Nia. Those were my girls. We built our friend circle just a few years ago. Laila was the only one I knew since college. We were all close, but we had our fallouts with each other and got back to being cool. It was always drama with a man because somebody was always fucking somebody. I wasn’t even fuckin’ but would be in something… like I was about to be tonight.
All the girls fell in loud as hell, happy to see each other. Alana already had a blunt burning. Laila turned on the music. We started eating and getting wasted, living carefree. We started talking about a shopping trip, vacations, and how much we hate working.
“I need to hit the damn lottery or something. All I can do is window shop,” Cee-Cee said and laughed.
“Lottery or a rich nigga, something,” Jai said, sipping her drink.
Laila cleared her throat. “Speaking of rich niggas, how many of y’all filled out that V Saint application?”
All the girls laughed, including me.
“I’m serious. Which one of y’all been outside with him?” Laila asked.
The girls started looking around.
I laughed. “Don’t look at me, I’m the untouched one.”
Alana spoke up first. “We’ve been spending time.”
Then Nia surprised us, saying, “He’s cool… we had a moment or two,” she said calmly.
Laila laughed. I sat back observing. I could tell both women didn’t want to expose what they had going on with him, but I could tell it was a bombshell for both of them.
Two friends fuckin’ the same man was interesting.
“Well damn, how many moments he done had?” Laila asked.
“Enough to be his favorite eater,” Nia replied smoothly as she looked at Alana.
I couldn’t help but spit wine back in my cup.
Alana laughed low, keeping it classy. “She’s doing a lot, but me and him be talking. Nothing too deep.” She shrugged.
Nia shrugged back. “Mmm… that don’t mean nothing to him.”
“Besides sex, what’s he like? Is he nice, mean? Do he beat bitches?”
