He thought: Alistair would have been right.

He thought: Alistair would also have arrived at the same conclusion about Naomi.

He arrived at the apartment to find Alistair in the kitchen he had been thinking about the same thing from a different angle.

"Naomi," Alistair said.

"Yes."

"You met with her."

"Yes."

"And told her—"

"The relevant portions," Tav said. "The Protocol. The archive. The risk profile." He met Alistair's gaze.

"I told her we'd been compromised and why, and what we were trying to do, and what we needed from her."

Alistair was quiet.

"I should have—" Tav started.

"No," Alistair said. "It was the right call." He held the look. "I would have made the same one."

"I'm annoyed that you made it without me."

"I know."

"Not because it was wrong. Because—" He stopped.

"Because we do it together," Tav said.

"Yes." A pause. "Yes."

Tav stood in the kitchen.

"She agreed," he said. "I know she'd agree."

"She's going to publish in concert with the archive release. She has three outlets. The sequencing is correct."

"The financial records first," Alistair said.

"Yes."

"And then the Protocol."

"Yes."

Alistair looked at the window.

"Good," he said.

"Yes." "I'm sorry I didn't consult you."
