“Really?”

“Yes.”

“Because I feel exactly the same.” I smiled through my tears. “I’m so in love with you. More than chocolate. More than the moon and the stars. More than anything I can think of.”

Daddy laughed. “So sweet. I love you so much, baby boy. Never forget that. We’ll make this work. Never forget you’re mine.”

My body warmed. I didn’t realize how cold I’d been until now.

“Forever yours?”

“Forever if you’ll have me.”

I leaned in and kissed him, then pulled back. “Yes, Daddy. Yours forever. Everything will work out. I know it will.”

“We’ll make it happen together.”

EPILOGUE

Sage crossed his arms and stuck out his hip. “I don’t need a sweateranda jacket.”

“It’s freezing out there,” I said. “If you want to make snow angels and a snowman, you’ll wear both.”

“No, Daddy. Just the sweater. I can’t move as easy in the jacket, let alone both.”

“If you’re bad, your next meal will be Brussel sprouts,” I warned.

“That’s abuse.”

“I’d never want to do that. But who’s running things when you’re little?”

He pouted. “Daddy does.”

“That’s right.”

“Maybe I need to be spanked?” He couldn’t keep the smile from his lips.

My eyebrows went up in shock and immediate pleasure. “Hmm. Maybe so.” I held out his jacket. “But first, snow angels!”

“Yay!” He clapped my hands, then reluctantly let me help him put on his coat and scarf. But the cap? Nope. He stood his ground.

“Fine. But consequences later.”

He ducked his head to hide his naughty grin. Sometimes he had too much fun being a naughty boy. And maybe I liked it a little too much, too.

The outside air was brisk and icy. But Sage bounded around like he didn’t feel it. First, we dropped to the thickest spots and made our angels. Then we built a snowman.

By the time we got back inside we were covered in ice.

I peeled off Sage’s layers, then said, “Off to the bathroom. I’m going to draw you a nice hot bath.”

“Yes, Daddy.”

I hung up our jackets to dry, then ran up the stairs.

Sage was already in the bathroom, heater on, naked as he watched the water run into the tub. It was already steaming and the bubbles were churning.
