“Pleasure’s all mine,” Vox says before adding, “I feel like you got cheated.”
“How so?”
“Last night, you said you wanted both. You didn’t have a chance to fuck me before I passed out after coming so hard,” Vox says, not mincing words.
“It was perfect,” I reassure him. “To be honest, as much as I wanted to, I don’t know that I could have anyway. I wasn’t kidding when I said it’s been a while. I mean, it’s been a while for sex at all. It’s been even longer since I was on top.”
“Well, anytime you want to practice, I’m here for you,” Vox laughs, taking a sip of his hotel lobby coffee.
“Vox…” I start, but he holds up a hand.
“I know. You’re going to tell me it was a one-time thing. Spare me. I don’t think I can bear a lecture on why we can’t do this. Your job, my job, Grey, blah blah blah,” he says, making me laugh.
“Blah blah blah?” I repeat, mocking him.
Vox shrugs. “Seemed like the best way to sum this bullshit up.”
Fair enough.
“Looks like we’ll at least have Jennifer’s birthday dinner together.” I don’t know why I just throw it out there like that. Best guess is I’m clinging to anything that will let me feel like this isn’t coming to an end as soon as my tires hit the property line of the ski resort.
“You’re coming to Grey’s?” Vox asks. I guess he was still asleep for that part of the conversation.
I nod. “He invited me when he called looking for you.”
“You sure that’s a good idea?” Vox asks in a melancholy tone.
“Hell no. In fact, I think it’s a terrible idea, but he caught me off guard, and he’s my boss, so I kind of felt like I had to say yes.”Plus, I’m pretty sure he’s catching on, and declining would raise more questions. Not to mention, I’m desperate to be in your orbit, regardless of where it is and who else is around.
“Okay, so we’ll put on the best performance of our lives. I can do that. Can you?” Vox asks.
“What do you want from this?” I ask, merging onto the highway. Knowing his expectations will help me better set my own.
“Well, I don’t want this to be a one-time thing. Connor, you’re fucking amazing, and you make my dick hard simply by existing.” He moves my hand to his rigid cock to prove himself right, but his next words are what confirm that it’s going to be solely up tometo ensure we stay out of trouble. “You make me feel not so alone. You understand my world, the things that stress me out, and the rides that make me high.”
“I feel the same way, but Sam was right. I’m a rule follower. I hate disappointing people.”
Vox lifts my hand and kisses my knuckles in a stupidly romantic and wildly unexpected gesture. “For what it’s worth, I’m extremely proud of you for last night.”
Fuck, I want to keep him.
Chapter 25
Vox
Ihad hopes that Connor and I would steal glances, touches, and kisses every chance we could get as soon as we got back to Ricochet. But to our dismay, there haven’t been many chances. Instead of having ample time to ourselves while the rest of the team has gone home for the one break we get this season, I’ve been busier than ever. Grey scheduled two photo shoots: one for the Patterson brand and one for final marketing materials for the Winter Classic Games. I also had three media appearances for live interviews talking about the upcoming event, and Frank even asked if I could run my trash route on one of the days to ‘clean things up a bit’ before the other teams arrive for the competition.
I haven’t seen Connoroncein the four days since our night at the hotel. I’m trying to sext him because I’m desperate, but he calls me immediately.
“Don’t put that in writing!” he admonishes, making me laugh.
“Why?”
He hesitates before answering. “Because Grey already hasyour location monitored. Who’s to say he’s not monitoring your texts, too?”
“Not this again,” I snap.
“It’s a valid concern, Vox.”
