“Like an angel,” I reply dreamily.
What is wrong with me?!
“Sorry?” he says, not hearing me over the music.
“Never mind.”
Pull yourself together, Freya.
“This espresso martini is delicious,” Leo tells Gabriel.
“It really is,” Ruby agrees, smiling up at him in a daze. “You are very talented.”
“I didn’t make them.” He laughs. “I just brought them over to you.”
“No, she’s right, don’t be modest,” I say, as Ruby and Simone nod along next to me. “You are very talented.”
Not a good idea to take an espresso martini onto the dance floor. The shape of the glass isn’t well suited for jumping around. Oh well.
Guess I’m rocking coffee stains the rest of the night.
See? I am so laid-back.
“I smell like coffee,” I inform Gabriel after he delivers an order to another table.
“Sorry?”
What are you saying?!
Again?!
“Never mind.”
“The pool looks so inviting!” Ruby says, carrying her heels in one hand. “The lights in that blue water.”
“Look at the stars!” Leo cries out, pointing up. “They are so beautiful.”
“So many of them!” Simone gasps, gazing upward. “Twinkling everywhere! You don’t get this in London.”
“No?” Gabriel looks up. “We get them every night here. Very romantic.”
Ruby and I share a look. I try my best not to laugh at her wide-eyed expression. I glance at the pool. I know what Ruby means. It does look very inviting.
“We should go swimming under the stars.”
They turn to stare at me.
“Huh?” Leo asks, putting his hands on his hips.
“Let’s go swimming,” I say confidently, bending down to take my shoes off.
“We’re not in our swimming costumes,” Ruby points out in confusion.
“Then we’ll go in like this.”
“In our dresses,” Simone confirms.
“Why the bloody hell not?”
