“No, you cannot. I’m writing it down.”
“Good one, babe,” Leo whispers audibly to her.
“And last but not least, wedding number seven?” Ruby asks, looking up from the pad.
“That would be on the twenty-fourth of September. Yours,” I reply.
“Oh, right! Course!” She turns to Leo. “What do you think?”
“I think we wait,” he says, stroking his chin. “We wait until she has successfully completed all six tasks, and then we choose the perfect conclusion. We need time to come up with it.”
“Yes, I agree,” Ruby says. “It has to be the perfect ending. You happy with that, Freya?”
“Not much I can do about any of this.”
“Then, we’re done!” Her eyes twinkle with excitement. “Trust me, you won’t give a hoot about stupid Matthew or what happened with your wedding. You’ll be too busy completing these wonderful, exhilarating challenges.”
She holds up the plan so we can admire it all together.
“What do you reckon, Freya?” Leo chuckles. “You feel ready to take on the Wedding Season?”
“I said I’m in, so I’m in,” I reluctantly confirm, burying my head in my hands. “And something tells me I’m going to deeply regret this.”
