“Can I talk now?” I asked.

She nodded.

I stood and wrapped her in my arms. “Thank you.”

“I’m so sorry,” she said once more before pulling back and wiping her tears. “Okay, now go get some sleep and put your laundry out. I’ll run it and make dinner for us when you wake up.”

I stared at her like she was speaking a foreign language.

“I know I can’t change the past, and I can’t make up for all the years I haven’t been there for you. But, if you’ll let me, I’d really like totryand be your mom.”

I wasn’t sure what to say. I think I was in a little bit of shock as I nodded and walked out of the kitchen.

“Skye.” I turned back around. “I don’t know if it’s too late, but if you wanted to, I would love it if you called me mom.”
