“I swear to you, Emma, I did not kill them—nor did I want them dead.”

“I don’t believe you.” She stood.

“Let me show you then. Let me into your melody, and I can show you my soul. A soul cannot lie, Emma.”

She turned to look at me.

“What?Yoursoul? No, that is Shad’s soul.” I watched as her anger flared, and her carefully constructed walls and shields around her melody started to crumble one at a time. The hateful beast was there, lurking and ready to attack.Ah, how adorable.

“Does your knight know about this little monster of corruption you have inside of you, sweet?” I raised one eyebrow in question, with a crooked smile.

She flinched.

“Don’t,” she made a low growl in her throat. I smiled. Maybe, I just needed to poke the beast awake.

“He fancies you, you know. It's cute, his little infatuation with you. He thinks he can save you, help you, but only I can help you, Emma.” I moved closer to her. I wasn't afraid of a little bite or some fire—bring on her monster.

“You don't know anything about Ryker and me.”

“I promise you, sweetheart, I know way more than you do. I'll share all of the secrets being kept from you if you share yours with me.”

“You stole Shad's soul; you murdered my family; you beat Ryker near to death!” She was full-on growling at me, and something stirred inside of me, something that made me want to see what was truly under the surface of this hatred and rage.

“Oh, sweet, there really are so many things you do not know.” I reached again for her, but she moved away. “Yes, with corruption, there is power,” I smirked, “But the corruption will ruin your melody, sweet. Trust me; I know,” I warned. As much as I enjoyed this side of her, I did not want her soul destroyed.

“Stop calling me that!” she screamed and picked up a side table, throwing it at a picture. I watched as the glass shattered, and shards cascaded across the carpets and the hardwood floor.

“That was my favorite print,” I said, knowing that I had plenty more where that came from and really didn't care in the slightest if she had broken all of the picture frames.I should not think such things. You sound far too soft.I scolded myself.

“Emma, you need to calm down; just listen to my melody, and then let yours out.” I watched as she focused on letting her melody sing, note by note. Finally, free; finally, with mine.

“If you let me, I can show you the memory I have of that night.” Yes, I was begging. She closed her eyes and sighed.

“Okay, but don’t push into my mind. I don’t want you in there.”

I lifted my hands. “Of course, I will only give you that singular memory.”

I walked over to her, to the couch; we sat facing each other.

“Okay, so I will show you the memory. Now, do not move.”

“What are you going to do?” she asked as I moved my face closer to hers.

“I just need to be close to you. Holding you would be good, but kissing you would be the very best,” I said, raising one eyebrow.

She shoved my shoulder.

“Okay, no kissing, yet; we will work up to that.”

I wrapped my arms around her. Her soft body was so pleasant in my arms. I reached my head down to rest between her neck and chest. I turned my face to her neck kissing her once, twice, then three times before she stiffened under my touch. I moved away just a bit. “This will be easier if you let me loosen you up a bit,” I said, holding her waist in my hands, not wanting her to go anywhere, but to remain right there where I wanted her.

“This is not loosening me up,” she said, pulling away slightly. “If anything, it's making me more terrified and horrified each second.”

“Okay, sorry. I will just hold you,” I said, pulling her close to me again. Her warmth and scent drove me near to madness. I tried to lock up the emotions that came to me, but Shad’s feelings were tumbling out around me; his feelings were making it hard to decipher my own feelings, but I wouldn't let that stop me. She didn't know about the war that raged inside of me, and I wouldn't let her know about it, either. I had put up walls when I was around Shad.

She looked at me as if she didn't believe me at all. “I promise,” I wrapped my arms around her. Now, let me in, Emma.

This goes against everything in me
