“Damn, work is that stressful? You don’t even drink like that.”

“Trust me, you have no idea how tired I am. You know I love working in PR, but it’s definitely been putting everything I know to the test. I’m not sure if they’re trying to see if I can handle it, or if these people are just that crazy.”

“I see. Well, working with Sincere Hill has to make it a lot better. That man is the definition of fine. I’m sure they have his picture right there next to the word in the dictionary,” she said, laughing.

I couldn’t do anything but laugh, too. She was right about him being fine. Every day, the man looked as though he’d just stepped off the cover of GQ. He wasn’t normally my type, but when a man was as fine as he was, he was every woman who came into contact with him type. His demeanor and the way he carried himself as though he knew he was the shit but was still humble about it only added to how fine he truly was.

“I mean, he’s fine, but I’m not looking at him like that. He’s my boss, nothing more and nothing less.”

“Oh, girl, please! That man is way too fine for you to be spending all day with him and not have a thought or two about taking him for a test drive.”

“Uh, yeah, no. I’m not even thinking about him like that. I wouldn’t do anything like that to risk my job. You know I need this,” I said.

“I didn’t say you had to act on it, friend. I’m just saying that I know you’ve thought about it on more than one occasion.”

Laughing, I replied, “I mean, maybe once or twice. I mean, he’s fine, so I feel like it’s impossible to be around him and not think about it. But, then I think about the fact that he’s with someone like Logan, and whatever wet dream I was having immediately dries up worse than a desert in the middle of the summer.”

“I hear you on that. I still can’t believe anybody, especially someone of his caliber, would want to be with a bitch like that. Is she still coming up there, creating problems for y’all?”

“Girl, yes! Well, she was for a couple of weeks. I’m not sure what kind of dick that man has, but that bitch is definitely dick crazy behind him. She doesn’t pop up anymore, though. I think that after she embarrassed herself the last time she got the picture, and decided to stick to calling and texting him.”

“I still think it’s crazy how your arch nemesis is the girlfriend of your boss. But, I guess as long as she’s not giving you any issues, then it’s all good. However, if that bitch does decide to go further than giving you the death stare whenever she sees you, just call me. You can’t afford to lose your job behind that bitch. But, me on the other hand, I’ll come up there and knock the Mario coins out of that bitch.”

“I know you will, friend.”

As I laughed and continued sipping on my drink, I felt someone tap me on the shoulder. Turning around, I locked eyes with Ray. He was another person who had been getting on mylast damn nerve. I was convinced he was trying to really have me sitting inside of someone’s prison cell with the way he was harassing me every chance that he got. You would think from the way he flaunted a new girlfriend every week on social media that he would’ve already moved on from me and was living his best life.

I hated having to see his ass every time I got on social media, but even though I had him blocked, I couldn’t block everyone who tagged me in whatever he had going on. I think that was why everyone couldn’t let what I did go because they were still attaching him to me, and he was giving them something to report on a daily basis. And that meant that they were reporting about me on a daily basis, too.

“What’s up, Ken?” He asked, taking a seat next to me.

“Uh, did anybody ask your ass to sit the fuck down?” Zaveah asked, giving him the death stare. My friend didn’t play about me, and she couldn’t stand his ass now, just like me.

“Man, I’m not even over here to see your violent ass. As a matter of fact, can you give us some privacy to speak?”

“Boy, fuck you. Ken, you want me to let you talk to this loser, or shall I get security to escort his ass out?”

“It’s cool. Just give us a couple of minutes, please?”

“Uh-huh,” she said, rolling her eyes and getting up from the table.

“What can I do for you, Ray?” I asked, sipping on my drink. I was praying that the liquor would have some kind of magical power and make his ass disappear.

“Why haven’t you been answering any of my phone calls, text messages, hell, my emails, too? You just showed your ass and didn’t give me a chance to explain my side of things.”

“I haven’t answered you because I don’t want to hear shit that you have to say. I don’t need your explanations, I don’t need your side of things, and I don’t need closure. I just need you toleave me the fuck alone so that I can finally move on with my life.”

“Damn, that’s how you really feel? I can’t believe you’re really going to throw away what we had that easily. We weren’t just on some boyfriend and girlfriend shit. You were supposed to be my wife. I fucked up, but I don’t think that what we had is beyond repair, though. If you would just work with me, you’d see that we can still make this shit work, Ken. I’m willing to do whatever it takes, too. You name it, and I’m doing it.”

Sighing, I had no idea what the fuck I needed to say in order to get this nigga to see that I was done with his ass. There wasn’t going to be any second chances happening around here when it came to us. Even if a small part of me wanted to forgive him, I wasn’t dealing with any damn side babies. I knew myself, and I wasn’t meant to handle something like that. And, I wouldn’t deal with any baby mama drama, either. So, no, we couldn’t work anything out.

“I don’t want anything, Ray. There’s nothing for us to work out. I suggest you go be with whichever girl is holding your attention at the moment, and take care of your kid,” I said, shrugging as I finished my drink, looking around for the waitress to bring us another refill.

“That wasn’t even my kid, though, Ken. We did a paternity test, and that bitch was lying. Just like she was lying about what really happened between the two of us. That’s why I’m saying that you need to hear me out, and at least let me explain this shit so I can just fix it.”

“Why can’t you just move on, Ray?”

“Because we’re meant to be together. You’re supposed to be my wife, and that’s going to happen. I’m not giving up on you or on us.”
