“Okay, thanks. I’ll get these set up.”

“Fine. When you do, call me, and I’ll set up your email account. Do you have the list of things you’ll need for your office for me yet?”

“Um, no, not yet. I’ll get it done now. I was preoccupied with other things.”

“Uh-huh,” she said, sitting the items down and walking out the door.

“Whew, this is going to be an interesting journey,” I said to myself as the phone began to blink at me.

“Hello?” I asked, not knowing how to answer the phone when it rang.

I was sure there was a certain way he wanted me to answer for external calls, but I had no idea about how to handle internal ones. I wasn’t even sure if I got external calls without them going through Beverly first. That was something I needed to figure out later.

“I see you were able to get Lyric’s label to agree to come in on Tuesday. I have no idea how you got them to come through so fast, but I appreciate it.”

Smiling, I replied, “Well, I’m in PR. Persuasion is something they train us to master from day one.”

“Good, you’ll need that. Anyway, get ready to go in about twenty minutes. We have some things that we need to handle outside of the office.”

“Okay. I’ll meet you at the elevators,” I said, hanging up the phone.

Grabbing the devices that Beverly left on my desk, I started setting them up so I could take them with me. I had no idea how long we’d be gone or what I’d need to work on. So, I wantedto ensure that I could at least get into them and handle what needed to be handled while we were out. Before we left, I was able to get signed into everything and worked on little tasks as we rode throughout the city.

After a sixteen-hour workday, I finally dragged myself into the house. While I loved having a job, I was tired as hell. Going from not working for months to working technically two work days in one was a lot. I knew he said he worked a lot when he offered me the job, but what he should’ve said was that all he did was work. When he told me that I could head home, he was still in his office working. I wasn’t sure how Logan dealt with that as his girlfriend, because from what I could tell, he never left the office, like at all.

“Well, if it isn’t our hardworking daughter. How was your first day, Sunshine?” My father asked as I plopped down on the couch.

They were still on their cruise and living their best lives. I prayed that it wasn’t too late for me to find someone to travel the world with one day. Even though I’d had such a fucked up experience, I wasn’t giving up on finding love yet.

“It was a day for sure, Daddy. I’m tired, but still so grateful to finally be able to work again. I hated sitting around the house with nothing to do.”

“I hear you. But, you’ve always been that way. You’re a hustler through and through. Did you eat something for dinner?”

“I did. We ordered Chinese food for the office. How is the cruise going?”

“It’s amazing. You definitely have to come out here and visit someday.”

“I will. But, I’m tired, Daddy. I just wanted to check in and let you know that I was home. I’m about to shower and crash. I have to be back at work by nine.”

“Okay, Sunshine. We love you,” he said, blowing a kiss and hanging up.

As I walkedinto the club with my girls, I smirked at all the men looking at us. Hell, the women were watching us, too. However, I wasn’t on that type of time tonight. The only thing I was trying to do was unwind, sip some drinks, and do my best not to think about anything related to work.

I truly loved what I did, but Sincere had been working the hell out of me ever since I started. If everyone else in the office wasn’t working as hard as I was, I would’ve assumed that he was doing it to me just to be mean. But nope, we were all dragging out of there in the wee hours of the morning.

However, even though I was stressed and tired as hell, I wouldn’t change my life at the moment for anything. I truly loved almost everyone I worked with, and I loved working for Hilltop Records. I wasn’t sure if Sincere had been considering keeping me around for the long run, but I truly hoped that he planned on doing so. I could honestly say that I wouldn’t want to work for anyone else. And, it wasn’t just because I might’ve been falling in love with my boss. But that was a topic of discussion for another day.

“Ken, what do you want to drink, boo?” My friend Raelynn asked as I leaned toward her. The music was so loud that I could barely hear her or myself thinking, and that was perfectly fine with me. I didn’t need to do any unnecessary thinking at that moment.

“I’ll take a lemon drop. Thank you,” I said, smiling at her and the waitress.

Before I could object, Raelynn had already handed the waitress her card and told her to start a tab. That was my girl, though. She was always trying to trick on us, and I loved it. Because when I had it, I tricked on my girls, too.

“So, since we all agreed not to talk about work. What else shall we talk about?” I asked, tapping my chin, already knowing where the conversation was going to go.

“Well, I want to talk about these niggas,” Zaveah said, causing all of us to burst out laughing.

“So, what’s going on with your love life?” I asked, taking my drink from the waitress and immediately bringing the straw to my lips to take a huge gulp of it.
