“Yeah, that’s my assistant’s ring tone.”
“Go ahead, it’s probably important.”
Duncan gazed once more into her eyes with intense longing, then headed for the stairs. The ringing stopped as he reached the top, then started right back up. She followed him and checked the time on her phone.
“Oh goodness, it’s eleven already? I have to go.” She wrapped her towel around her dripping wet curves. “I … I’ll see you later.”
Deflated, Duncan watched her dart toward the door and disappear into the hotel. He swiped to pick up the call, growling.
“Carlos, this had better begood.”
Aurora shut her hotel room door behind her and leaned her back against it. Her lips still tingled from his kiss. She ran her fingers over them lightly, her brain finally starting to process the biggest development of the night. Her shower beckoned her, but first things first. She couldn’t wait any longer to tell her friends about her day. She grabbed a screenshot of her conversation with Duncan.
Aurora: Okay, who’s up? We have a situation.
She typed into the group chat the five of them kept going.
Carrie: Yo
Lizzie: I’m up. What’s going on?
Adele: Is it good or bad?
Aurora sent the screenshot to the group chat.
Aurora: This was my morning. When I got to the hotel to help decorate, he asked me to dinner instead.
She waited for their responses.
Lizzie: OMG How was it?
Adele: Did you go?
Carrie: That’s adorable.
Aurora: It’s a long story, but the rest of the group crashed our date.
Carrie: So then it wasn’t a date?
Aurora: Does it count if I didn’t pay for dinner?
Lizzie: I can’t believe you had a date.
Adele: Awwwwww
Carrie: I like him!
Aurora: It gets better.
Lizzie: I’m waiting
Adele: TELL US
Carrie: :)
Aurora: He asked me to go swimming after dinner just the two of us. It happened so fast, but first he said he’d wanted to kiss me in high school, stared into my eyes, and then kissed me in the pool … in front of people …
Adele: I’M SCREAMING SO LOUD I WOKE THE CAT
