“It wasn’t about you.”

I started to get up, pissed that he would continue to deny it, but he pulled me back.

“I mean it wasaboutyou. But the reasons for writing it weren’t really about you. That doesn’t make sense.” He sighed. “I don’t know. It’s probably fucked me up more than you. Having to sing it over and over.”

“Good.”

He slid his hand up my shirt, cupping one of my breasts like it belonged to him. “There you go being a mouthy slut again.”

He pulled my thighs apart, spreading them over his, trailing his fingers over my bare pussy.

I tried to shut my legs, but he held them open.

“I’m not doing that right now. I’m pissed at you.” I sounded like a brat.

“So be pissed at me. You know how to make itstop.” As he said the last word, he slid his fingers into me, cupping my pussy possessively and grinding the heel of his hand against my clit.

I gasped, fighting back a moan. “I don’t even like you.”

“You don’t need to like me. You just need to like what I do to you.”

I liked it too much.

But the sex had never been the problem.

“I’m going home as soon as we land,” I said.

“That’s fine. We’ve got hours until then…”

MAIA

“Did I throw up last night?” I groaned as vague recollections of having the spins flashed through my brain. I’d been trying to hold on to the nightstand to stop the room from spinning, but it didn’t work and I’d run for the bathroom.

Next to me, Zane leaned his head on one hand and grinned, looking slightly disheveled but hardly worse for the wear. “Big time.”

I dropped a pillow over my face in shame, muttering, “This is what you get for trying to keep up with the fucking zygotes, Maia.”

Zane pulled my hips back against him, hardness digging into me eagerly. “The only part of that I caught was ‘fucking.’”

I squirmed out of his grip and poured myself from the bed, taking three staggering steps towards the bathroom before I caught my balance.

After showering, brushing my teeth twice, and gulping down copious amounts of water, I felt almost human again and crawled back into bed with Zane.

He’d ordered room service and fed me tiny bites of greasy breakfast food, slowly bringing me back to life. I hated myself for drinking that much, but after three shots of tequila, all bets were off. I had no idea what I even drank after that.

There had been far too many nights like that in the three months we’d been holed up in this room while they were doing Vegas shows. Bill was only too happy to comp a room for us at his casino so we had space from the rest of the band, but soon they’d be hopping on the bus to cover more distance and we wouldn’t be able to pull this off. I couldn’t keep following him around like a lost puppy. I had a life to get back to.

I’d spent almost four months with him, taking a few weeks here and there to work when I needed to, but I was finished with school and about to start an internship, which meant I could afford to just pick up restaurant shifts or escort clients here and there temporarily. But I needed to find a new place to live closer to where I’d be working on the West Side of LA, and now seemed like as good a time as any to talk to Zane about it.

“I can’t keep doing this.” I nudged his arm and he lifted it to let me snuggle my head against his chest. “The drinking and the partying…it’s not me.”

He stroked a hand up and down my back and more memories from the night before filtered into my mind. How he’d taken care of me, carried me back to the bed, and rubbed my back until I fell asleep.
