I promise you that we’llhave fun
It’s West of the Moon and East ofthe Sun.”
Riyan knelt down and held out his hand. I rushed to him as the energy of the music pulsed through me. He took my hand and spun me insmall circles.
“Let’s see Thornebow do this,”he said.
The world was a merry spiral of lightand laughter.
“We went o’er the stream, and thenthe hills,
Faced too many of themountain’s thrills,
Then my lover caughtthe chills,
Death and I in a battleof wills,”
Riyan let go of me and I found my bearings in the dirt as the world kept spinning. Soldiers cheered from the top of the wall and the tall square towers, all gathered to watch us dance. Normally I was too shy to perform in front of a crowd, but I was so happy I picked up my skirt and twirled for the audience. I finally had the freedom to dance to the old song and I was not going towaste it.
Riyan whistled as I kicked my feet and spun with my hair fanning aroundmy shoulders.
“No, girl, can’tbe undone,
I won’t stop till your lifeis won,
Don’t you sleep untilwe’ve run,
To the West of the Moon and East ofthe Sun.”
Riyan laughed and lifted me up. I wrapped my arms around his neck and he cradled me against his chest as we danced under the light of the waning moon. His heart pounded against mine. The light in my blood sparked harder than the night before and lit me up from my heart to my toes. Riyan’s twilight eyes wereon fire.
“I buried her there inthe snow,
A greater pain I’llnever know,
My tears did fall, my blooddid flow,
And Death had gained hergreatest foe,”
The light of our bond wrapped tightly around the stone casing around my heart. The bond glowed brighter as it squeezed the crumbling stone, breaking off small pebbles as I looked into Riyan’s eyes. My heart pounded as I let myself give in fully tothe moment.
A tiny golden rope pulled on my chest, beckoning me to get closer. The warmth in my veins was exhilarating, Riyan’s smell was intoxicating, and all I wantedwasmore.
My heart thumped as my blood sang.More.More. More.
I placed my hands on each side of Riyan’s face. Our bond grew warmer and warmer as I leaned in closer, erasing the coldness of the distancebetween us…
“Oh, girl, itwas fun,
All my heart and soulyou’d won,
But my love isnever done,
I am West of the Moon and East ofthe Sun.”
And I finallykissed him.
Our golden bond exploded with light the moment the soft heat of his lips met mine. The light sparked and glowed in the veins of my arms, then in my fingers, then all the way down to my toes. When the warm tingling sensation was too intense to bear any longer, Ibroke away.
