I’m not going to lie… I would be scared if I were him. It’s not like any of us will go easy on her.

A smile so big stretches across my face, my muscles start to hurt. Not because they’re giving me shit, but because I know with every ounce of my being that Ainsley will fit into our dysfunctional group like she’s always been there and absolutely give as much as she gets.

Me:

Iwill ask her soon.

Rina:

You do that. Are you seriously good, Ledg? I know you haven’t seen her since everything went down.

Me:

Shockingly, I’m great. It was nice to get the closure, honestly, but I don’t think there was ever anything really there between us. Not like there is with Ainsley and me.

And that big truth hits me in my chest. I was prepared to marry Jenna because it was expected, not necessarily because I wanted to. But Iwantto marry Ainsley. I want everything with her, and I know she needs more time, but just knowing I’m fully committed eases any worry I have. I’ll wait a lifetime for that woman.

Lennox:

Well, that’s good to hear. Go call your woman, and text us all later so we know you’re okay.

Lennox is such a conundrum some days. He’s a goofball and immature, but his soft little heart makes me want to always protect him. He tends to make sure everyone else is okay but never himself. A lot like Ainsley, actually.

I shake my head and exit the group chat, then pull up Ainsley’s number.

“Well, hello there, boss man.”

A smile spreads across my face.

“Hey baby,” I say softly.

“Is everything okay?” Her tone instantly shifts.

“Everything’s great. Do you want to come down to the nursery right now? I have some things I want to talk to you about.”

“Yeah, of course. Give me five minutes.” I hear her shuffling around.

“See you soon,” I say before hanging up.

Five minutes later, Ainsley is walking through the office doors.

“Hey, what’s going on? Are you okay?” She looks concerned, and God does it make me love her even more if that’s possible.

“Come here.” I pat my leg and hold my arm out for her.

She sits on my lap with her eyebrows furrowed. I take the opportunity to smooth them out with my fingertips before leaning forward and pressing a kiss to her lips.

“What’s going on, Ledg?” she whispers.

“So much. Jenna was just here.”

She reels back, eyes wide. “What?”

I fill her in on everything Jenna told me and wait for her reaction.

“There is so much to unpack here,” she says.

“I know.” I smile.
