“Thank you, Haydes.” She flicks through television shows, and she stops on channel seven. The news comes on and I sit down next to her. I smirk when they show the house that was in the explosion last night. She doesn’t say a word as she keeps flicking through another set of channels.

My need for her gathers to a point where I’m ready to have her again. We are sitting here in a comfortable silence, for once. Messing it up seems like a crime, but every time I’m around her, I want her. I take the remote from her hands and switch the television over to Pandora Music. She sips on her hot chocolate and a little of the whipped cream gets on her nose.

Reaching for her, I pull her to me as I take the mug from her hands and sit it down on the side table nearest me.

“Please, Haydes, I…”

I don’t let her finish. It’s too much right now. I lick the cream off her nose and pull her into my lap. The blanket falls away from her body, leaving me only her clothes to take off. I curb the need for the moment. Soon. I tell myself. Soon I can have her again.

“Charlotte, you said you’d be a good girl,” I remind her as I lay her on the couch and get on my knees between her legs.

Her lower lip trembles. “Is it so horrible to be with me?” I ask her, frustrated. The powers to overtake her and have my way has lost its charm. It was fun for a while, but I want her to see me as a lover. She needs to get over this wholeyou’re like a brotherthing.

She doesn’t answer me as I grab her chin and force her to look at me. “This is happening. You need to come to terms with the fact that you and I are a thing. I’m not letting you go back to those bastards. And you aren’t living on your own anymore.”

Charlotte brings her right hand up and scratches me with her nails along my face. “I hate you. This isn’t living. This is being held against my will.”

Blood trickles down my face as the air hits the scratches. Damn, she has some sharp claws. I should have cut her nails the moment I got her here. Letting go of her chin, I use both hands to grab her arms and force them above her head.

“Oh, so it wasn’t hell living with the brothers?”

She flinches as she knows I’m telling the truth. I know what they put her through. Hell, the evidence is on her fucking back. “I just want my freedom!” she screams at me and bucks against me.

“No.” I kiss her to keep her from talking anymore. She’s driving me mad. When I pull back, she spits in my face. I laugh at her attempts to be defiant. She’s no match for me, and she should know that.

“You just can’t be good, can you? You’re a damn brat sometimes. But know this, Charlotte. I will tame you.”

“Never.” She thrusts her left leg around, and it connects with me on my thigh. It’s enough to loosen my grip on her and she capitalizes on the opportunity. I wrestle with her arms and legs, knowing now I should have kept the mother fucking leash on.

“Stop, little bird. You’re going to hurt yourself,” I whisper in her ear. She turns her face enough that her lips are next to my ear. She bites down on me and, at first, it’s pleasurable, but then she bites harder. I grab her and push away from her.

She doesn’t let go of my ear though. “Charlotte, fucking stop.” I move even further away as the pain intensifies. I move enough to where I can release her hold on me.

“Let me go!” she growls out. I’ve never seen her like this, and fuck if I’m not turned on. I get up from the couch, huffing in anger.

“We’ve been through this. It’s not happening.” I walk away from her. She needs to calm the fuck down. Grabbing a pair of handcuffs from the wall, I turn around. It was a mistake to take my eyes off her.

“Charlotte?”

I looked up from the book, and Haydes was there. I jumped up from the lounger seat and threw my book to the ground.

“Haydes!” I wrapped my arms around him and kissed his cheek. “You made it.”

His deep chuckle washed over me, and I felt safe. I felt at home with him. The Jefferies’ house was a nightmare from the start. I’d wanted to beg someone to come get me, but the new case worker refused to let me leave. It seemed as if no one knew what to do with me since I couldn’t seem to keep a family for longer than a few months at a time. The state said Haydes couldn’t adopt me, and that enraged him. He had been to prison for me because he refused to let me go to the Jefferies’ house.

Seeing him now, after seven months away from him, I was happy. It was the best birthday present I could ever wish for. That’s not true. Being able to move in with him would make me the happiest girl in the world. I knew he would take care of me and not take advantage.

“Hey, little bird. How’s my birthday girl?” He sat down on the patio chair with me in his lap. I’m too big for lap hugs, but I love it. Only with Haydes, though, because he didn’t mean me any harm. When Mr. Jefferies tried to get me to hug him, he always felt up my butt. I didn’t told Haydes that…not yet.

Haydes was no longer a social worker after the debacle with him keeping me from the new foster home. I think Haydes knew that Mr. Jefferies was a pervert.

“I’m great now that you are here. Please tell me you are going to take me away from here. Please?”

Haydes smiled that brilliant twinkling in the eye smile for me. I giggled, excited to hear what he had to say. “Well, little bird, you’re officially emancipated by the state of Texas. You do not have to stay here if you don’t want to.” He held out a piece of paper that he swore to me he would get. And here it was. I smiled brightly at him with such confidence that life would be a lot better now.

“Yes! Thank you so much, Haydes. Thank you.” I jumped up from his lap and clapped my hands. “I’m going to pack. You’re taking me home, right?”

Haydes stood up and pulled me to him. “Well, of course I am, little bird.”
