Good thing I came. At least now, I can keep an eye on him, keep him on a tight leash—

My alpha senses her before I do, all the hairs on my arms rising as my gaze darts across the room, landing on a pair of glossy black heels. My eyes drag up over a pair of long, shapely legs in thin, black tights, up over a baggy purple jumper that hides too much, and when I hit her face, my body tenses.

Damn.

She’s gorgeous.

Nothing unusual there. She’s an omega. They’re all pretty. That’s all.

But when her mouth parts a little, bright green eyes darting to me, then to my brother, then back again, I find myself desperate to hear her voice.

“There are two of you…”

I always forget that my brother and I are twins, but it’s the first thing everyone notices.

“Yeah, but I’m the pretty one.” Luc steps closer, adding a wink that I want to punch him for. Then he hands her the coffee. “For you.”

Her wary gaze drops to my brother’s hand, pausing with uncertainty. The little omega is completely unaware of my brother’s intentions.

Good. Let’s keep it that way.

“Thank you, you didn’t need to do that. That’s… really thoughtful.” Then she smiles.

My chest suddenly feels too tight, my alpha rising up and knocking at the mental wall between us.

I realise I might need that leash, because when she takes a sip, humming her approval over the sweet taste, the sound doesstrangethings to me.

She swallows, then asks, “Have you told…” Her gaze darts to me.

“Valentin Vale,” I offer, stepping closer before I even realise it.

Her eyes widen, staring up, trying to take me all in.

Fuck, she’s tiny. Even in those heels.

But I don’t miss how those icy greens drop down, trailing all over me.

I’ve been overseas for almost a month, providing security for one of our top clients. Gym whenever I could, keeping my body in peak condition. Right now, I’m a little bigger than my twin for once.

The tattoos covering my arms make the difference even clearer. Her gaze travels over the old-school ink, then my hair, which is a little longer than Luc’s.

I always preferred a buzz cut, clean and to the point, but I didn’t get a chance to because my fool of a brother had other ideas for my first day back.

“Have you told him the plan?” she murmurs, voice a little softer, gaze still lingering over me.

“What plan?” I gruff out, glaring at Luc.

She swallows, eyes going back to myprettybrother. “You didn’t tell him?”

Luc beams at me. “We need to chat with some omegas.”

My glare and voice sharpen. “Are you serious?”

“Why didn’t you tell him?” the omega asks my brother, sounding genuinely upset.

And I don’t like it.

“He might be my twin, but he’s the moodiest fucker I know. If I told him, he wouldn’t have come.” He shrugs, as if that absolves him.
