If I told him the truth, I’d be risking being found, risking my life. If I didn’t, he was going to kill me anyway or give me to someone who would.
I’d come to think getting kidnapped by a motorcycle club wasn’t the worst thing that could have
happened. It could have been a good thing after all. Regardless of how dangerous these people were,
this place could be safe for someone like me. The devil I was running from wouldn’t find me here.
That was all I cared about.
I thought I’d play along, bide my time, play every card, every trick so I could stay here as long as I could until I figured a way to disappear again. But now that I knew why they took me, I wasn’t safe
here either. I must find a way to get out of here. Now.
But how?
“How much is the reward?” I stalled.
He smirked. “I knew you’d wise up and get on board.”
“I’m not asking to know how much my cut will be. I’m asking because I might have a better offer
for you.”
He snorted, the smoke blurring his face and irritating my nostrils. “You only have two fucking
grand in your bag. I mean, had.”
Of course, he took my money. “What if I can get you more?”
“Like one hundred times more?”
I looked him straight in the eye. “How about two hundred times more? Four hundred thousand
dollars.”
His eye twitched. “Youhave four hundred grand?”
“Yes. They can be yours if you, instead of using or killing me, protect me.”
“Protect you?” he laughed. Then his face turned dead serious. “From what? Or should I say who?”
I moved around the bed and sat right across from him. “If I tell you the truth, will you help me?”
He put out his cigarette and leaned forward. “Listen, whoever the fuck you are, you haven’t said a
single real thing all night. You’ve been doing nothing but stalling and playing games. You haven’t even given me your name. How the fuck would I know if any shit you’re about to say is true?”
“Fair enough. How about we start over? My real name is Sia, but I haven’t gone by that name in
six years.”
“Sia?” he scoffed. “Sia what?”
“I don’t remember any of you giving me your last names.”
He let out an impatient sigh. “Fuckever. Let’s say that lame ass name is real, who do you want me
to protect you from? And how the fuck are you gonna pay up?”
