“Look, it’s not like I’m ungrateful, but I want nothing to do with that piece of shit. You can get some other demons to do it.Theyhave to listen to you. Or why don’t you just go look for him yourself? You have Hell access.”

Belle and Inferno stared into each other’s eyes in what seemed to be a staring contest. Were they talking into each other’s heads?

I growled. “Cut the demon crap. If you have to say something, say it in front of all of us.”

Belled broke their stare and lifted a hand at me. Then she stormed out.

Chapter 13

Joshua

“What was that with the demon?!” The alpha dog came barreling in, almost smashing the cabin front door. “What—”

“Don’t give me your jealous possessive crap right now!” Isabella interrupted him, her fingers claw-like, her eyes aglow, and then she twisted and ran for the stairs.

“Don’t run away from me! We have to fucking talk!”

When she rushed upstairs, without even a look over her shoulder, Kayden snapped at the lounge chairs, smashing them against the wall.

I’d never seen Kayden that enraged. He was always calculated even when angry. That attitude I expected from the volatile mutt twin, not his alpha. Alec, on the other hand, was eerily silent.

I glanced at Alec. “Do I even ask?”

“Damien is a son of a bitch,” he said, his voice low.

I nodded suspiciously. “What else is new?”

“He’s been trying to take our Belle all for himself.”

“What?!” I darted up from my seat. Then I took a long fake breath, clenching my teeth so hard so I wouldn’t sink them into someone. What he said was fucking enough to make any of us lose it. “Have you seen the fucker? Where is the piece of shit?”

“He’s still MIA. Rumor has it he’s in Hell, breathing his filth into our heads from there.” He turned to his brother. “Kayden, what she did at the clubhouse, that wasn’t her. It must be Damien. He’s in her head.”

I went to the open kitchen counter, where Kayden now rested his elbows. “What did she do?”

He gave me a quick glance, and then he shook his head, his mouth twisting. “She fanged up. I had to literally yank her away so she wouldn’t have a bite, and then when she held that baby…she seemed possessed. She wouldn’t let her go.”

“Vixen Legend’s baby?”

“Yeah.”

“But she helped saving the twins. Isabella would never hurt a child. Alec is right. That doesn’t sound like her at all. That backstabbing, lying evil incarnate must have been toying with her.”

“I think he’s toying with me, too,” Kayden said. “I’d have never snapped at her like that. He’s breaking us from within. He wants her to get mad at us to go to him.”

First me and Alec last night, and now Kayden. I looked them both in the eyes. “We won’t let him.”

Kayden nodded. “We have to stick together for now, not fall into his mind games.”

“She has a soft spot for him, though,” Alec said. “He always finds a way into her head. We might be able to control ourselves, but how do we get rid of that power he has over her?”

“Their demonic bond is strong, but there’s another bond that, to her, would be even stronger,” I said.

The brothers exchanged a glance. “A mother child bond.”

“If Belle carried my baby…” I mused, and they glared at me. “I mean, any of our babies, that demonic bond she shares with Damien would be overpowered. She’d leave him and never look back. And we’d find another way out of our deal with him. He’s practically breaking it on his own, trying to steal her away for himself.”

“That brings us back to square one. She can’t have our babies if she’s still with him. She won’t break up with him until she has a baby.” Alec’s shoulders slumped. “Did you find anything in your research that can help?”
