“When I woke up at the hospital, and he was there…I saw something I’d never seen in his eyes before.”

“What was that?”

“True remorse. That for me was hopeful enough. I knew one day he’d leave his dangerous life to be with me. I loved him that much to lie to myself and to him so that day would come.” Little had I known that day was the end of everything. A terrible sigh blew out of my chest. “Why did you? Why did you go out there, disobey your boss and save me?”

He just stared at me for a while. Then he shook his head. “I don’t know. I just had to.”

Chapter29

Enzio

“Ponza o Elba?” Alfio asked, a captain cap on his head, hand on the yacht steering, a cigar in his mouth.

I blew out a puff of smoke and downed my whiskey. “Elba e dopo Ponza.”

“Bellisimo.” He checked the GPS and steered. Then he looked over his shoulder, his white shirt, all buttons free except for the last, blowing around his figure. “It’s nice she’s here con il bambino. She seems to be…adapting. More accepting.”

My eyes traveled to Bianca and Mario. He was playing in his stroller. She was lounging in one of the recliners, oversized shades on her face, her hair wet from the quick dip we both took a few minutes ago, a book in her hand, a black crochet tunic covering up her bikini, a nice tan forming on her petite body. “Si, si.” At least, she was accepting of my fingers.

My cock pushed against my shorts at the memory of her big O. I shifted my gaze to the open sea, dragging a puff.

He nodded his chin at her, chuckling. “More than accepting. She’s having fun.”

“What…?” I glanced back at Bianca and blood pounded my temples. I plucked my shades off, jumping to my feet. She was in her bikini now, her top fucking off. “Che cazzo?” I spun, and Alfio was still staring. I jabbed my index finger in the air toward the sea. “Eyes front!”

He swirled. “Don’t get too hotheaded. She’s your wife. I’d never…”

“Yeah, that’s whereyoudraw a fucking line,” I growled, taking my knife from the table in front of me, and stormed to her, noticing one of the fuckers I’d assigned to guard her stealing a glance.

I grabbed the black thing and threw it at her naked tits. “What the fuck do you think you’re doing?”

A big scowl contorted her face. “Sunbathing. On the privacy of our own boat. I don’t like the tan lines.”

I bent and pinched her nipple angrily. “But you like it when men ogle you, don’t you?”

Her teeth dug into her lip, stifling a yelp. “Enzio, you crazy?”

“You want crazy? I’ll show you crazy.” I grabbed the fucker by the neck and made him kneel in front of her. Tossing his shades away, I opened the knife and pointed it at his eye.

“Enzio!” She held tight to the cover up now.

“Anyone sees you half naked like this again, I’ll gouge both their eyes out right in front of you. Is that what you want?”

“No! Please…”

Alfio waved a hand as he approached. “Enzio, che—”

“Shut up or you’ll be next,” I growled.

My uncle froze as the bodyguard mumbled his apologies and how he’d never repeat that mistake ever again.

I didn’t give a shit. “This time I’ll gouge only one.” I dug my blade in his cavity and took his eye out.

Bianca’s scream burst through the fucker’s piercing groans of pain. I nodded at the other guard. “Help him.” I squashed the eye and threw it in the sea. Then I took a towel and wiped my hand and knife, staring at Bianca. “Take the baby and get inside.”

Still wouldn’t put the fucking thing on, she clutched it to her chest and wheeled the stroller to the cabin.

Alfio wiped his mouth as the bodyguard dragged his piece of shit friend out of my sight. Then my uncle stretched on his toes to reach my ear. “This is the kind of shit that made them never want you as Boss.”
